I'm glad some action has been taken. It appears someone has taken steps to understand all sides of this subject so I hope this is a note generally acceptable way forward: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55223935

Nope - I just don't subscribe to this particular conspiracy theory. For those who truly believe "dark and mysterious forces" are at work to keep down the proletarian rabble... James O'Brien is available 10am-1pm weekdays on LBC. Well, while I'm not entirely convinced that the Eton educated elite deliberately keep us down as some sort of sinister plot against the working class, I am pretty sure that if someone came up with a fantastically fair and democratic plan to share the wealth between everyone in the UK, then those who do run the country - and lets not forget that of the 55 British PMs we have had, 20 were educated at Eton and 7 at Harrow- then I suspect that all of a sudden there may be a bit of twitchiness in the corridors of power. I think what you are suggesting is a credible opposition party with an economically sound and sustainable strategy for the redistribution of wealth. Would that be fair? If that is the case, it seems perfectly reasonable.

It would it be great to see both sides taking a joint, unique stance against racism. The message still gets through. Sadly this won't happen. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55218186With regard to taking the knee: "QPR had stopped the gesture, in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, earlier this season after director of football Les Ferdinand said its impact had "been diluted". But now, at Millwall this evening, Mark Warburton has told his players to take the knee. The outcome will be sadly predictable. Well done Mark for throwing oil on the fire.

It's just that highlighting social injustice makes some Neanderthals very uncomfortable. Anyone else note the decline (yes, decline) in health spending per head in the north east? Basel, you were keen to mention the plight of the working class, but you haven't mentioned that, but focus on BLM. I wonder why?

Millwall are making a clear, anti-racist statement and attempting to bring people together. Mark Warburton is being deliberately provocative. This is a stupid, divisive act. This will not 'help'. Millwall supporters will claim (rightly or wrongly, it really doesn't really matter) that they are protesting against a political organisation, and off we go again.

I think those who use it would be horrified at conditions if we didn't live in a liberal society. Oddly enough, and- in view of their ongoing spats on here- this is more aimed at Oldie than a reply to Basel, I know Basel pretty well and he is a very tolerant, liberal minded kind of bloke!

Basel, you were keen to mention the plight of the working class, but you haven't mentioned that, but focus on BLM. I wonder why? Me too because it's not about BLM but about players showing their support to each - black players in particular - who still to this day have to put up with childish, bullish, anti-social overt racism aimed at them from adult people who think they have the right to act like gormless fwits at football matches. Taking of the knee is not owned by BLM but goes back to the civil rights movement. Calling BLM "Marxist" is about as dimwitted as it gets because it's taken straight from Trump's divisive neo-fascist agenda, which goes down fine where he rules where people have been indoctrinated to consider anything left of centre on the political scale as being communism, but not in the UK where most people with at least half a brain see through it for what it is; cheap and nasty populism rhetoric.

Thanks Rex. Yeh,it is a shame the liberal thing. Abit complicated for me to type much (mobile, out and about) right now. The moral high ground became so moral, that a few were bound to fall off. I suspect the Scottish referendum started mass interest in UK politics and with that interest came some spiteful vocal and written participation.Chuck in 'social' media and here we are.

Some people outside of football or even the sofa Sky football fans still suspect our UK stadia is full of far Right hooligans, not capable of reasonable thought and word. Well this particular thread shows,as we know, we are.Infact thanks to this ,other Rovers forums and football forums in general we chat, have our say and the hard bit, listen 🙂. We are clearly far better informed than those that criticise and see it all as an exaggerated version of the 70s.
Oh and well umpired Epping! Thanks.👍

But if people really want to start talking about funding in the NHS from a regional perspective, that's fine. Start it in General Chat. Similarly any 'debate' around Brexit (if anyone can be bothered to summon up the energy and enthusiasm) that's fine. Start it in General Chat. Same rules will apply - polite debate only. Sadly politics too often descends into mud-slinging and name-calling. I'd rather avoid it to be honest. UTG.

The right of centre opinion in particular seem to get influenced a lot by USA localism. But progressives also. If George Floyd had died the same way in France would we even be kneeling at the mem and throwing statues in the docks?

I get it, but maybe you should aim your finger wag at Basel, twas he who triangulated BLM to the plight of white working class folk in the UK, but without reference to anything in particular. I was helping him by quoting an example, a fact, which in itself would have triangulated back to Brexit, Turkeys and Christmas. But hey ho I will stand in the naughty corner

We have our issues too, but if anyone claims UK has exactly the same racial problems, particularly with the police, as they have in US, it is a lie. A dangerous one. We need to be careful how our discourse and this narrative via mainstream and social media is influenced by someone else’s local agenda that’s in a different place to ours. we still have issues with racism in this country. My suggestion is education into unconscious bias and passive by standing to turn the heat up on racism that way. Football clubs can retire kneeling today and concentrate instead on funding this education in its local community.

The biggest difference between the Police in the USA and here is they police by force, armed force. Which inevitably leads to shootings and death. We still, just about, police by consent, unarmed, in the main. Far less shooting and death. Is the inherent attitude that much different, officer by officer? I would like to think so, but I have my doubts.
