Were Derby County in the prem when Ellington got a hat-trick? Yes. Ravanelli came on as a sub to help rescue them but it was too late. Bottom I believe,as were Fulham and at least right now,Blades are too.

For a long time this was the match I most regretted not attending. Snap. In the last 30 years, this is the game I didn't attend and most regret. My eldest (he would have been 8) was back to school the next day for the start of term and I couldn't really justify dragging him to Derby on a Sunday night. I f*cked up.

I put £10 on us to win at about 12/1 in the services at Tamworth on the way to Derby. It was a good day.

2012 lost hóne to blades 2 1 Clarkson opened the scoring. I thought we were unlucky that day. Clarkson was running things and they kicked him out of the game. That's what my totally unbiased and infallible memory is telling me anyway.

Kinda like this one. Sheff Utd on a horrendous run. Although I like Wilder, I've always preferred Wednesday.....and when we played them away on that Tuesday night (when we should have won and largely outsang them until they scored) a few Wednesday associates came in our end with us. They won't relish coming here. Last time we beat them was back in Eastville days....1983. Time to make a difference and possibly get Wilder the bullet... Saw us beat them 4-1 at Eastville in 1978. Think Dave Staniforth got a brace and maybe Steve White in his first spell with us, but it was a long time ago and my memory of it is somewhat vague. I still have the programme. Frightening to think that was over 42 years ago. Good draw on paper for us and if we turn up we might give them a game. Take it to them, and with the run they are on, who knows? We have a chance of winning this one.

First time a 4th tier team (shudder) had won away at a Premiers**t club in the cup I think. Ellington was outstanding on the day, as were the rest of the team. Especially good performance from Che Wilson who had a big heart, but whom I also never rated as a player. His best game in the quarters I think. The noise we made throughout was deafening and Derby were glad to see the back of us. Definitely in my top ten Rovers away days.

Also beat them 3-1 at Eastville in the last game of the season- 1977?
Wayne Powell hat trick I think?

I can picture being at a neighbour's hours, and Grandstand with the vidi-printer being on, when there was always seemed a delay as the team names followed by the scores were typed up on screen.
Sheffield Utd 2 came up ... I assumed defeat ... the typing blob thing paused, blinking away ... then moved on ... Bristol Rovers 3! No way! Get in!!
Just looked it up. 18/12/1976. Warboys 2, Staniforth 1. I would have been 7.

He could hit a really accurate cross-field ball - actually going forward! Plus, his sister was the innards of Captain Gas in the days before Captain Gas was demoted. The ChewitSaurus dance days, I think.

The ChewitSaurus dance days, I think. Not sure why I didn't rate him. We had a really s**te team in those days barring one or two obvious highlights e.g. Duke. Perhaps it's because of the association with those other overpaid journeymen. Maybe it's because he was one of those useful utility players who struggle to nail down a place in their own right. i remember him as not truly terrible, but not particularly good, apart from his Pride Park performance. Had a big heart though and would never accuse him of not trying or not giving a stuff. Just didn't think he was good enough for L1.

Ray Mabbutt scored 3 or 4 I believe. Not quite the same on Gillette Soccer Saturday!

Back in the day, I worked at an Ad Agency that had Watneys as a client. Was sent to pick up the Cup a few months later. Just had a Company Compliments with me, and they handed it over. Top level security!
