Football legend Diego Maradona, one of the greatest players of all time, has died at the age of 60.
The former Argentina attacking midfielder and manager suffered a heart attack at his Buenos Aires home.
He had successful surgery on a brain blood clot earlier in November and was to be treated for alcohol dependency.
Maradona was captain when Argentina won the 1986 World Cup, scoring the famous 'Hand of God' goal against England in the quarter-finals.
In a statement on social media, the Argentine Football Association expressed "its deepest sorrow for the death of our legend", adding: "You will always be in our hearts."
Maradona played for Barcelona and Napoli during his club career, winning two Serie A titles with the Italian side.
He scored 34 goals in 91 appearances for Argentina, representing them in four World Cups.
Maradona led his country to the 1990 final in Italy, where they were beaten by West Germany, before captaining them again in the United States in 1994, but was sent home after failing a drugs test for ephedrine.
During the second half of his career, Maradona struggled with cocaine addiction and was banned for 15 months after testing positive for the drug in 1991.
He retired from professional football in 1997, on his 37th birthday, during his second stint at Argentine giants Boca Juniors.
Having briefly managed two sides in Argentina during his playing career, Maradona was appointed head coach of the national team in 2008 and left after the 2010 World Cup, where his side were beaten by Germany in the quarter-finals.
He subsequently managed teams in the United Arab Emirates and Mexico and was in charge of Gimnasia y Esgrima in Argentina's top flight at the time of his death.

When he told the journalists to leave his house and they wouldn't and he took a shotgun to them he became of my fav people.
The tv bio on him is superb, the scenes in Napoli were extraordinary, i think they had a 3 week party.
I walked the wrong side of a La Boca St for about 30 secs, anybody growing up there and achieving what he did is v special.

Saw him play live, twice. The first time, was when I was on holiday in the Barcelona area, and there was a a pre season tournament at the Nou Camp. There were four sides in the tournament, one of the matches was Barcelona v Nottingham Forest, when Brian Clough was manager, about 1983 or 4. The match started about 10.00 pm, and the stadium was only about half full. Forest lost 2-1, and Maradona scored a typical goal, weaving past two or three defenders, then rolling the ball in to the net from a tight angle, right in front of where we were stood. The second time I saw him play, was when I lived in the Manchester area, and Manchester United played Barcelona in the old Cup Winners Cup. I’m pretty sure the game was pay on the day, it was in the era when gates in England had dropped, due to all the hooliganism nonsense, but there was still about 50,000 in the stadium. United had lost the first game in Barcelona 2-0, but won 3-0 on the night, to progress to the next round, Maradona was anonymous that time, and was jeered continually, and this match was several years before the infamous World Cup match with England.

Thought this was a great comment by Gary Lineker...
Match of the Day presenter and former England striker Gary Lineker says Maradona was "by some distance, the best player of my generation and arguably the greatest of all time.
After a blessed but troubled life, hopefully he'll find some comfort in the hands of God".

I just listened to Gary Lineker chatting about his memories of Diego.I now think DM probably had the best technical skill of any footballer.Ever.

Pretty funny how serial England failure Peter Shilton (6 foot) was out jumped by a bloke who was 5'5.

Ahhhhhhh but if you add another 2 feet for his arm........ Ah, I forgot Shilton couldn't use his. Add that to jumping over the ball in 1973 against Poland and his pathetic attempts at goalkeeping in 1990, Shilton should probably just shut up.

A footballer who cheated? There's a shock BTW, care to name me a single player who would stay on his feet the way Maradona did when he scored the second goal

Not to forget the paragon of virtue that is Terry Butcher......Never cheated him, great upholder of the corinthian spirit. Shortened any number of careers with two-footed horror challenges, but never cheated.....

Great bio-pic: "Diego Maradona is a 2019 British documentary film directed by Asif Kapadia about the Argentine footballer Diego Maradona with never before seen archival footage. It was screened out of competition at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival". (From wiki). After watching it earlier this year, I did feel some sympathy for him. Some. Interestingly Asif Kapadia also directed "Amy" - which is another brilliant bio-pic about another tortured genius.

Shortened any number of careers with two-footed horror challenges, but never cheated..... Terry Fenwick said once that he regretted not fouling him on the edge of the box for the 2nd goal, he ducked out because he had already been booked. To me it still looks like Butcher got the ball first when he scores. Shilton was slow off his line for the first. Imagine if Lineker had scored that first goal. Nobody would have admitted it afterwards.
