Sad to report the death of Bernard Brain a longstanding Gashead who worked as a volunteer for many years at Rovers with the Football Trust. Former headmaster Bernard was a loyal supporter since the early 1960s and was 71 when he died.A good friend of mine and many gasheads. He was an active member at Gloucestershire County Cricket club. His funeral is on 17 November at St Bernadettes church. He will be sadly missed for his wit and wisdom.

Sorry to hear this Mike.
Bernard was a lovely friendly guy and never short of a Rovers related story.
Will be missed by everybody fortunate enough to have known him.

Awful news, was always a pleasure to see him at the football and cricket. Got to know him through his son Daniel and was always a knowledgeable, funny and kind guy. Thoughts are with his family at this time. RIP Bernard.

I was, honestly, wondering just this morning why I hadn't seen any posts from him recently. Very sad. I didn't have that much contact with him but what I did was very congenial. RIP Bernard. Condolences to family.

That is very sad. I didn't know him personally but I used to really enjoy chatting to him on the Rovers forum and the old BBC forums about Gloucestershire. Came across as a very interesting, kind and knowledgable person.

Very sad news, Bernard was a good friend, with a ready wit. He loved Bristol Rovers and Gloucestershire, and had been looking forward to enjoying his cricket this summer, although he knew it was going to be his last summer. It will not be the same going to the Country Ground next season, without bumping into him. He could also spot a player, he told me years ago that Alfie Kilgour and Ryan Broome would make the grade in senior football, and always enjoyed attending the youth team fixtures. RIP, and condolences to his family.

I cant say I knew him, but when I see threads like this, I always think that I must have seen him about. Would anyone have a pic they can post of Bernard if that isn't considered inappropriate?

I used to see him and give him a nod at the top of the East Terrace, leaning on the railing directly across from the turnstiles. Any help?

I often had a few words with him at the end of the game as he went from the the East Terrace into the Blackthorn with, I believe, a stick in later days, he was a Rovers man through and through and always optimistic.

I just feel sure that as he had been going for years 9and a Glos fan as well) he was probably one of those blokes you see about and give the knowing nod to. Sad news anyway.

I think he was one of the guys involved in The Welly meetings Rex.
Does that narrow it down any further for you?

I wasn't at the meetings. well I'm sure I must have bumped into him from the sounds of it and it seems it was my loss not knowing him as a friend, my condolences to all those who knew him as one.
