1-1 FT Rovers probably edged it overall, but not by enough to justify a win. Two closely-matched mid-table teams, and looked like it. Neither goalie troubled much Nicholson probably the best Rovers player. Grant got yet another yellow. Leahy's introduction probably improved the side. JML didn't make a huge mark. Defence looked better 2nd half. I thought Ehmer had his 2nd good game on the bounce. Harries and Balders less so Not terrible, not great, our young 'uns have another game under their belt I do like Nicholson. |

I really enjoyed the football in the second half - hopefully that is what Garnerball is all about and its getting through to the lads.

Pathetic by Baldwin, moving across and missing a header from a 60 yard pass, would like to see him lose his place to kilgour.

A decent enough away point today. I think there's an interesting question there about what our expectations should be for this team. Damned if I know though. We all know what failure would look like for this team and we're not short of potential predictions of doom but what does this team have to do to be considered 'successful' in people's eyes?
I think I'd be happy with otp half or maybe even slightly lower than that but with evidence of improvement both as a team and individuals.

I really enjoyed the football in the second half - hopefully that is what Garnerball is all about and its getting through to the lads. But is it Garnerball?, knocking it around the defence and then Harries launching it down the pitch on near every occasion smacks to me of hoofball, 8 out of 10 clogged passes are overhit, straight to oppo or go into touch. The midfield are bypassed as they can only move sideways or backwards and cannot offer service to the forwards, it's not a criticism, just an observation. |

Irish,for me this season mid table is okay.BGs ideas have to become second nature,good habits made subconsciously.Eg,decision making in the final third or defenders keeping their concentration hats on.Etc.Games played and with it experience. Attractive passing football, that many have yearned for (I like GC style and passing game,for the record). I would want to see us challenging for a play off spot next time,that would be nice and hopefully near 8000 to 9000 average crowds at the Mem.A couple more of "our own" coming through to replace any we may sell,hopefully for lots of money.A healthy 'youth' recruitment scheme. Wael to get the buildings knocked up at The Quarters would offer a lift. That would count as successful for me,but to nail it,promotion,this time or at a stretch one of the three after. Edit.I don't disregard a play off challenge this time.It seems there is a big desire to listen to BG and his coaches and improve.I think/hope,once a few pennies drop and jobs are thoroughly understood,we could be right amongst the chasing pack. |

I thought that in the second half we did get it down and play, and that Ehmer at least was coming forward a bit more, whereas in the first half it was the boring / tedious knock it about the centre backs before hoofing it that you describe. |

Twas tongue in cheek as you know, Garner, rightly so, is adjusting 'Garnerball' in accordance with the capabilities of L1/L2 players after the dizzy heights of the Indian Super League. |

I thought that in the second half we did get it down and play, and that Ehmer at least was coming forward a bit more, whereas in the first half it was the boring / tedious knock it about the centre backs before hoofing it that you describe. To be fair the second half was better, but not enough to change the outcome. |

I was thinking this one is hard to sum up, but then read Ben’s interview and he summed it up perfectly.
We started brightly, particularly Nicholson.
With lead we took foot off gas, stoped doing the effective things.
Awful goal to concede, shouldn’t happen.
Harsh words half time, better press, tempo and territory second half.
What I would add to that.
Our task was harder by home side treating it as away game and not coming out to play. Maybe this was reason for too much rubbish hoof ball, but too much ineffective hoof ball there was.
Our performance is chalk and cheese simply on how deep or high we can get the wingbacks up the pitch.
Nicholson’s start impressed me. What was his position and role, seemed straight swap. But I totally disagree with every gas head, reporter, headline and manager who said we scored a good goal. Nicholson attacked with pace and intent, placed well with requisite power. But it was abysmal goal from Rochdale point of view. They opened like the Red Sea. They put no pressure on him. They did their (excellent) goalie no favours at all.
One big negative becoming clearer all the time. We didn’t beat Burton, didn’t beat dale, lucky to get cleanie at shrews, but when we come up against likes of Ipswich, donny, hull and Peterborough we are too far away to take anything from them. Our lack of cutting edge to win the Burton and dale games is ominous for the months ahead.

As Rex points out, it would be all but impossible to field 11 professional football players and continue with the shocking, embarrassing, chaotic mess that Garner turned us into last year. Where exactly are we when we have an owner who has lost more money is about 5 years than any previous owners combined could have ever thought possible, has secured those losses against the stadium, but is being praised to the hilt and supporters seem desperate to get behind a manager who brought us relegation form and the longest length of time, ever, in our entire history without scoring a goal? Buckle got his wish didn't he. Expectations well and truly lowered. |

I thought both teams tried to play in the "modern" style, which their manager summed up as: "...the balance between keeping the ball and penetrating the opposition's back line..."
