Former Burnley left wing back Ali Koiki who had loan spell at Swindon Town is expected to join Rovers. 21 year old has turned down another contract at Burnley and is a free agent. He apparently failed to agree terms at Charlton and has interested Sunderland.

BG coached him at Palace. Sounds a good signing. Quite a few left sided defenders about. One or two to leave by Friday?

Even though Garner has had success with 3-5-2, I feel his preferred formation may be 3-4-3, in which case Tutonda and Koiki could play together.
It comes to something when Appleton moaned about our spending, remembering all those press conferences from DC where we had a bottom 6 L1 budget. Boot is on the other foot it would seem.

Boot is on the other foot it would seem. I’m not sure that’s true. BG says our wage bill is lower than last season’s (which you can well imagine having replaced a squad of experienced players with a squad of youngsters), and we’ve also made a profit on transfer fees - having sold JCH and only spending minimal fees on Ayunga & Hanlan. I think Appleton has just looked at us bringing in 11+ players & assumes we’ve splashed the cash, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.

we can become the League 1 version of Chelsea, and have 60 youngsters out on loan in L2 and below, and keep the cream of the crop!

I suppose i meant it was nice for someone to be moaning about us for a change

Look around at the other forums and most think we were making lots of new signings and automatically assumed it was costing us lots of money. So they assumed we were spending well above what others were doing. What they didn’t realise, like Appleton, was that we’d released Sercombe, Craig, Nichols, Ollie C and others who would have been at the top end of our wage bill. Add to that losing JCH who signed for us in 2019 with a “life-changing” contract meant that we had cut the wage bill considerably. Fans notice which players are being signed by clubs more than they notice the players who are leaving or being released. And let’s face it Appleton had just been beaten at home by a club in the bottom half so he was looking for every excuse he could find. The referee was one excuse and it was easy to use us signing lots of players as another. Manager in post match interview looks for excuses! Not unusual is it? 😉 And regarding the OP, if we sign this player, who I know nothing about other than Burnley would have signed him on again which must be a good sign, and we move on a couple of left sided players then I guess it could be financially neutral yet achieved the objective of strengthening the team/squad. Good business, good management perhaps. UTG!

I assumed that we had upped our wage bill as well. I realise now that i underestimated how much some of our departing players were on.

At last. Only worry is who's going to get disillusioned first over no game time. Hope this was realised by one and all when they signed. Is Crystal Palace the link here with BG?

I think Tutonda can be played as a runner in central midfield. He popped up in right wing position Tuesday, being central with cover he would have more license to follow his natural instincts, go chasing after the ball or running into channels for it. If I gave you choice of playing Carlton Palmer or Messi, who would you choose? The right reply is both. Mechanics of good performance is screens and water carriers as well as bubblegum shoes and pick pockets.
