Hi all, can anyone help me with some details about these two shirts? I'm hoping that somebody knows someone who has one? They are the 1988/89 and the 1989/90 yellow away shirts. Thanks in advance all. UTG! Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

i have a Universal Components , still wear it for our walking football nights[ alongside PR!! Great shirts all the Spall ones, and the Universal Components yellows are some of the best. Do you happen to know if the one you've got is this one with the diamond pattern in the material? There are actually three different yellow Universal Components shirts, 89/90, 90/91 and 91/92, the other two have collars whereas this one is a v-neck. Thanks for your reply - UTG.

the pattern shows an "M" on it one on top of the other it seems .. if you look close the lower ,and a larger M , merge into another on top of it, the pattern is repeated all over, in "raised" and flat " .... mine is earlier than yours, it says 1883 !! [ in other words the pattern is not as the one in your picture]

This season's home shirt has the same pattern in the material.

Our shirts were red and white stripes and as the game was on The Big Match the TV wanted us to change as still a lot of black and white TV in those days.

You are right, but it would appear this may have been the point where the away shirts changed, I believe this was the last season we wore the red and white stripes and we had yellow away shirts then for the next six or seven seasons. I'm sure I've even heard that Brian Clough didn't want their yellow kit back so Rovers kept it, I dont know if this was true or if it ever got another outing?

The opposite, Rovers wanted to buy the kit but Brighton said no! Think we did then go to Yellow next season.

There's a record of Rovers' shirts on this website: footballshirthistory.weebly.com/a-b/bristol-rovers# It shows the prominence of yellow shirts thereafter. You are of course right that the 73/74 yellow was Brighton's, but it could also be counted as a Rovers matchworn shirt.

The story goes that Cloughie burned the kit. However, I've heard two separate stories on this: one that he took the kit to the centre circle, the other to the car park, before he set the pile of shirts alight. Another story from this game is that Cloughie walked into the treatment room, where Alan Warboys was stretched out on the table, and Cloughie said something along the lines of: "I don't know what you're doing lying there son; my defenders didn't get anywhere near you all game."
