BASICALLY down to people who don’t give a f!! As it won’t affect them( me me me symptoms) I’m all right jack f!!! You.. IMO no matter who was at the head of the wheel we would still be where we are because of the way some people think Having a Government who put their own interests and those of their mates above anything else, and who are always a lap behind has magnified the danger from the stupidity and selfishness of the "exceptional British public"

Best Bass pub used to be the Star at the top end of Bath. No idea if it is still going or if it still serves Bass

so is the covid situation in oz as good as in New Zealand, can you get fans in for an all blacks return match? All states bar Victoria are relatively free on covid with NSW picking up only a handful of cases per day, and these are almost all traceable. We have reduced capacity sports with the Rugby League (NRL) drawing a few thousand per game. Although NRL is a sport better watched on TV. They AFL drew 17,000 and 15,000 in Adelaide and Brisbane this month compared to 80,000+ crowds pre-covid. Awful sport to watch though. The UK seems to be heading in reverse gear - the handling looks chaotic and bizarre compared to over here. Do you think it’s the politicians or people that are contributing to the large infection rates? Interesting thread and interesting views from chelt gas. I'm in Canberra, been back a forth here for almost 20 years, but sitting out COVID19 in Oz is much safer. On drink, when I lived in Bristol almost all the pubs were Courage, which I only liked when they introduced Directors. Spent some time in Colchester, which introduced me to Abbot - no contest. Couldn't disagree more about AFL - great game which I would have played a lot if I was born here - all about finding space - which was my strength when playing good quality football. On the broader issue, I don't think there is much chance that normality, whatever that was, will return. Keep safe everyone and up the gas. By the way I'm with BG as well!

I was a big fan of Timothy Taylors - I’ve seen it being sold in bottles over here although frustratingly it’s always kept in the fridge. The craft beer community has really upped their game recently with a few new breweries having been acquired by SE Asian investment vehicles after just a few years. The money being spent is pretty incredible given that many breweries don’t have any tied pubs. There’s too many whistles in AFL. It reminds me of British Bulldogs in a school playground although the players are exceptionally fit compared to other sports. They wear Guernseys not Jerseys. .

Yes, the beer is certainly getting a lot better here; the football not so much.

I like a pint of beer now and again,likewise a glass of red wine,but I usually drink lager. San Miguel,a 'beer' from Barcelona I think.The Lounge,on Gloucester Road serves a good pint.
October 1st will be 1 year since I last had a drink of alcohol.I think a couple of cans and a take away curry with a pal is likely to mark my return.

I think the increase in UK R rate is down to some people seriously lapsing Chelt.Then the Government allow the tube to run eg,that seems a mistake to me.So abit of both. I know someone who is working with the Oxford Laboratory and I was told just yesterday a 2nd lockdown is a very serious possibility as Cov19 cases increase. Wear a face mask,I was told!

Do you follow any live sport down there? Forever the football fan so follow Wellington Phoenix but there is no avoiding the All Blacks. World War III could be breaking out and the announcement of a new All Blacks captain would be headline news! Is covid having much impact on the sport? It was but as of yesterday, we're pretty much back to normal outside of Auckland and the All Blacks will play Australia in two weeks in front of a 40,000 crowd in Wellington. How did you end up there, most magical mystery tours end up in either Whiteley Bay or Barnstable? Job ad in one of the UK broadsheets, thought I'd get a day trip to London out of the interview, ended up getting the job! Does Kiwi fruit ever get out of season? Always available but dirt cheap when in season! Not a great fan of it myself.Have you visited Hobbiton? (Good Saxon name that Hobbiton). No, too bloody expensive. I'll leave them to rip off the overseas tourists. Not a great fan of Lord of the Rings either and that's considered treasonous here!
My questions;
Where's the best place in Bristol for a good pint of Bass these days? Can you still get Bass? What ever happened to the World Wine Fair, Radio West and Roger Malone? How many series is Shoestring up to now?
There's a video about of dear Roger Malone talking about his HTV days.Out in 2019 I think Jeff.I can't link,but I'll try and get a title,so you can hear those dulcet tones once again. Edit.Right,google 'Subs Bench talk to HTV legend Roger Malone' and you should get Sheeeead Roger.I imagine someone can put a link up on ere.

Expensive? £3.50 for a bottle of gem transported to a bar on the hairy arse of the planet is not too bad at all to be honest. I have a feeling if we now start comparing bar prices those back here in England may start to feel off colour. Bristol currently has more micro brewery’s with tap rooms and outside seating than I can name off top my head. So I’ll cheat and google it. www.manvsglobe.com/craft-beer-guide-bristol-best-breweries-tap-rooms-uk/. What’s refreshing is many are small, not in it for the money as much as love of what they are doing. Moor brew in Bristol. Now Old Freddie. Like having an old friend in Falstaff himself. desdemoor.co.uk/moor-old-freddy-walker-and-jjj-ipa/Bristol beer factory, north street Southville. Completely the wrong part of town. But Southville Hop is so so right. How can something from somewhere so wrong be so right? www.bristolbeerfactory.co.uk/southville-hopGWB Hambrook. Off top of my head it’s pint of Meerkat I enjoyed most from GMB I got a mini cask in for Christmas that didn’t survive anywhere near Christmas. www.gwbrewery.co.uk/our-beers

Yeah we know all about that. The bitter little elf creature from Star Trek explained it to us.
