so some credit to Ben for the sweet talking, and to owner for the hand in pocket. and to this fan forum to supply the love. when do we learn the cost of the transfer? Its a "free" transfer because he turned down a contract offer from gillingham. But because of his age we have to pay them compensation. It sometimes goes to tribunal but clearly the 2 clubs have agreed a figure. We will never know how much just like all the other undisclosed fees. It’s been touted that 75k is what has been doing the rounds, on twitter. Not sure that is true.

Even if you put a 1 in front of that, the player potential could far out value the amount paid, but as ever it is a risk.

What sort of things would tribunal take into account, negotiation between clubs would as well? If he was a year younger would that be 50K more for example? also structure of payments make a big difference to agreement, like the Saido example spurs bidding close to the clubs 25M valuation, but structured with £5m up front and the rest to be paid in instalments was quite rightly unacceptable. It was a laughable bid from spurs if they seriously wanted him, or worse trying to get someone on cheap by unsettling a player. I would be surprised if Posh have already transferred a million to us.

As he was 21 when he joined Gills would that mean any tribunal fee would be small?

It'll be instalments as you say, but wasn't it £1.25m plus addons or rising or whathever? Depends if he scores on his debut. Oh well....

Oh well.... my understanding is add ons is £xx reaching a number of appearances, and/or £x for each appearances to a limit, perhaps £x for a certain number of goals, but most likely sell on fee, either of profit made or total move on price, some sell on fees go on and on like the player branded on his butt where each prospective buyer finds the small print. A stage payments plan is actually separate from that. Going back to the saido example, losing key player WBA would want money in bank to replace him ASAP, the derisory up front from Tottenham doesn’t help with that. stage payment ideas likely offered by the buyer, and rejected by seller till a point they are happy to accept the overall package. And it’s not entirely finance, the football side needs to be involved, you have a ready made replacement on bench or due back from loan or you haven’t for example, makes huge difference to what you should accept. stage payments is getting what you want more cheaply, in that you hold your money in your bank account as well as enjoying the purchase? Thanks for the feedback. Someone only been at club for short period means less compo than if they had been there for years?
