I hadn't realised Ogogo was on his way. I hope Ben Garner knows what he is doing. Of the list of leavers... this is the one that I don't really understand. Surely we need at least one 'tough tackler' in midfield? Or am I missing something/someone... Are we going to play tika taca next season? Barcelona played lovely football that way a couple of years back - with an awful lot of play-acting, falling over, and help from the referee. I don't think that style of football will work in League 1. I'm backing BG, but can't say I don't have nagging doubts.

I almost sense that BG is trying to build a PL team/tactics for L1. There have been some good signings, but although the style BG is trying to achieve is attractive it is difficult to make it work in L1. You still need a rottweiler in midfield like Ogogo to break down attacks and intimidate midfielders.

I hope/assume Josh Grant can stick a tackle in because if he can't,who in our midfield can?

I wonder if Ogogo was a high earner, and towards the end of his career, so that BG is thinking that it's better to trade now rather than later otherwise I tend to agree about pitches/rottweilers/L1 etc

We have signed grant who is a defensive/midfield player and if ogogo leaves i guess that another D/f upson will stay as well as the terrier like hargreaves. Never mind barcelona i reckon garner wants us to play something like coventry did last season who passed most teams off the pitch including us. No idea if it will work because i have no memory of seeing any of our new signings play.

PL tactics won't work for a couple of reasons.
1. Garner showed a total inability to adapt to what the opposition were doing. Quite the opposite in fact, we often started games OK, the opposition changed a couple of things, we were stumped and got over-run. So any comparison to Garner and anything that happens in the PL is just laughable.
2. PL players get tripped up by their own shadows and VAR awards them a free kick and a 20 minute nap with a glass of warm milk to get over the horrible experience. No such luck in L1, try any of your Citeh / Arse fancy stuff and the opposition will think you are mocking them and will clobber you.
I still hope that Garner gets it right, he comes across as self-centred and more than a little arrogant, but he's Rovers' manager, so I want him to win games, but it's more hope than expectation.

Plenty of league one teams in recent seasons have been successful playing out from the back. Its exactly what coventry did last season and also doncaster as well as teams in previous promotions like wigan, sheff utd and bristol city. It's totally legitimate and feasible to play in that style in league one if you have the players to play like that.

This actually a good point vertigo.I've been thinking, well sort of ,'playing a cross between Cryuffs Ajax and Pepes Barca is extremely difficult, but playing in a Sky Blues of last season style looks doable. We may have the squad (maybe) ,but we still don't know about the manager. Thinking Sky Blues rather than 'Ajaxelona' brings our ambitions into focus.

Well i did qualify what i said by saying "if you have the players to play in that style" and i have no idea at all if we do to be honest. Watching coventry and doncaster at the mem last season was interesting in that they were totally committed to playing out from the back regardless of anything rovers tried to do.

Yup - to be fair they had the best away shirt I think I've ever seen. Two tone. Respect.
