it seems Frosty was out in the cold on this one? The Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Jack Mesure as Assistant Manager ahead of the 2020/21 Sky Bet League One season.
Mesure made his first steps into professional football coaching with Crystal Palace, working alongside Ben Garner in the Eagles youth setup, where he spent the next 10 years. Mesure had an impressive rise all the way through the age groups eventually coaching the under 23 team.
Players to have come through the Crystal Palace academy set up throughout this time include Wilfried Zaha, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Rovers striker, James Daly.
In October of 2018, Mesure made the move further into London to join the academy setup at Chelsea FC, after being headhunted for the post by the South-West London club. For the past 2 seasons, he has coached some of the most exciting young players in the country working with the under 15's to under 23's.
Mesure now reunites with Garner at Bristol Rovers, stepping into the role of assistant manager at the club, prior to the squad reporting back for pre-season training.
Speaking about the appointment, Manager Ben Garner said, "I'm absolutely delighted to be able to bring Jack to the club. He is someone I have known for a long time and worked very closely with previously. We share very similar beliefs and ideas about the game plus Jack also has the personal values and characteristics that will enhance the strong staff structure that we already have in place.
"Jack is an outstanding coach. He is passionate about what we are trying to build here at Rovers and his work ethic, dedication, and expertise will help us on that journey. I would like to thank Neil Bath and Chelsea Football Club for their cooperation in us being able to appoint Jack ahead of the 2020/2021 season."
On joining the Gas, Mesure said, "I'm so excited to get started at this great club. The manager has told me so many positive things about Rovers, the plans moving forwards, the people at the club and the fans. I hope everyone associated with the club is safe and well following this lockdown period and I cannot wait for the first game in front of the Gasheads. I look forward to seeing you all at the Memorial Stadium."www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2020/july/jack-mesure-signs/This was Frosty on Monday.... Piere, in Weymouth, asks: Any idea if Garner is looking for any additions/changes to his backroom staff? Of course, Maher has been linked to Southend and Lee Mansell stepped up last season to help out.
Sam's reply: Garner had the chance to alter his backroom staff when he took the job, Piere, but he declined and was happy with his resources and the ad-hoc help from his friend Steve Coppell. Should Maher get the Southend job, though, that would likely change and he would probably bring in a lieutenant of his own. But as it stands, I expect it to be the same coaching staff with Lee Mansell continuing to be involved with the first team.

Welcome Jack Mesure.
I think it important Ben has someone he knows and shares the same football philosophy as him to work with.
I mean if BG is going to succeed, this appointment looks good.
Let's get on with the new era,so in for a penny,in for a pound.

Let's get on with the new era,so in for a penny,in for a pound. 100% agree with that for the first time ever as far as I can think, the club are 'thinking big' (not Man City big, but still big). It might work, it might not, but it seems coherent, forward-thinking, and increasingly professional to me it might turn out to be a very exciting ride

I would say the question mark above the manager just got smaller.

If this is a building process I will definitely accept anything apart from relegation from L1. I don't demand or expect promotion or even playoffs next season but mid table for this manager would be a start. I would then hope he could kick on having 3 windows to bring in his own people.

This is appointment is thoroughly untried and thoroughly untested. I'm thoroughly uninspired. It's an experiment.
Forgive me but the jury is well out atm, and starting from scratch is something we haven't been used to in recent years, yet appears to be a new era in our ongoing history.
I'm normally naturally optimistic, but my faith in BG has been tested to the limits so much, am not expecting anything else but a struggle next season...

That's the caretaker manager in place ready for us being in a relegation spot after 15 games then.
Hope that doesn't happen, but nothing seen last season gives any confidence that it won't.

It’s a completely new approach for Rovers, young coaches schooled by premiership clubs, in for penny in for a pound. I quite like this era of unknown. The world has changed in six months so why not also adopt change for the future.

Because had Garner have not inherited a team already in the play off places we would now be waiting for the L2 fixture list to be announced?

MK Dons went for the new approach when they appointed Dan Micciche as manager,a former England Under 16 manager and highly thought of as a coach. He won 3 games out of 16 in charge as manager, better record than Garner. It didn't work out, M K Dons got relegated with Ed Upson in the team, where is Micciche now, manager of Arsenal Under 15 side. Crawley went for the same kind of option, that didn't work either, it's horses for courses, a seller at Wincanton isn't going to win the Derby.

Angry? I'm not angry. You seem to be though. What's with all the sweary 'ffs' stuff? Chill out, it's only football. I'm a bit worried, mostly because we were hard to beat, then in the blink of an eye we became a soft touch and were horribly disorganised. But as said several times already, I hope Ben sorts it out, but I don't think he will, my thought is that he's a coach, not a manager. But will be delighted to be wrong. We'll know by the end of Sept.

I didn’t think Ben was a great match of personality to the players he inherited, for the timing of his appointment, given his predecessor’s character and that he hadnt his own coaching staff. But this is just my instinct and nothing more. However, he has developed his own squad of younger players, has his chosen an assistant, a training ground and now a clear run up to a new season. I hope all this change compliments Ben’s philosophy. I’m definitely much happier with him at the helm than a Steve Evans or Martin Dobson

But as LIS correctly points out, new season, we go again. I hope LIS points me back to this after a dozen games and tells me that I have no idea what I'm talking about and our main worry is stopping a 2nd tier club from poaching our manager.

The recruiting young ball players plan worked a treat for coventry city so why not us? As long as the club stick with the plan i see no reason why it cannot work. Signing 28 year old journeymen with no sell on value makes no sense financially for a club like rovers so its about time we tried something different.

BG managerial statistics dictate he should be boiled alive in oil for his crimes..

Instead of sacking him, we're sticking with him and giving him additional support. And I'll be supporting him. No negativity from me at the moment. My account has not been hacked.
