I'm surprised it's a championship side that are the first to enter administration... at least they have a bit of TV money coming through (though overheads ie players salaries are crippling in the league above us). The BBC report www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53247333 the Huddersfield Chairman as saying that "50 or 60 Clubs could go bust" back in May. Maybe that's extreme, but it wouldn't surprise me if 20-25 Clubs went to the wall. We are very lucky to have Wael Al-Qadi right now.

12 point deduction puts them on 37 points and relegation looking a distinct possibility.

The deduction of points will happen at seasons end, depending where Wigan finish. If they finish in the relegation zone (not likely), then the 12 points are carried over to next season, when they start life in L1. If Wigan do not finish in the relegation zone, then the 12 pts are deducted at the end of this season. This could mean 1 of 2 things, they could be relegated, or if they manage to achieve 4 points (currently) more than Hull, even after the 12 pts deduction, they would be safe. Wigan currently are top of the form table and have won all 3 games since returning from the enforced break.

A few yew years ago i watched Tottenham host Wigan in the Prem. As you could imagine the whole ground was packed bar a sliver of away fans nomore than a hundred in number. They were outnumbered by Tottenham stewards, An away game against one of the big London clubs is what football fans dream off. If Wigan is to be the first Covid 19 related club in England ( they are in England?) to go under their fans could always revert back to watching their Lugby team. UTG

The Guardian link makes 'interesting' reading.

UTG Not sure what 'Lugby' is but many years ago,I ran the line at their old Springfield Park ground in an FA Cup quarter final v Leeds.Full house and a very early Sunday K.O. Never been there previously and pre Sat Nav,I simply followed the towering floodlights which could be seen from miles away only to discover it was their Rugby League stadium!!!!!

I don't really get Lugby there's no net for the ball to hit and no gurrrrrr off the pitch. But each to their own: clogs wippets and Wigan Warriers!

I did exactly the same thing back in the early eighties on my first ever visit to Springfield Park for a damp and dreary Tuesday evening encounter. I had a couple of days off work if I remember and thought it would be a good idea to head 'oop north for the midweek game at Wigan. I alighted the train , followed my nose and some huge floodlight pylons only to then arrive at a place called Central Park ! I asked an old guy who was sweeping up at the entrance where the ' football ' ground was and after a smirkish grin he pointed me in a northerly direction for which I then duly arrived at that illustrious stadium complete with grass bank atopped with a stylish looking bus shelter !!
We lost the game 1 - 0 and I couldn't get a train home spending most of the night in an all night caff on Crewe station.....happy days !

Crikey, I didn't realise quite what a total mess the championship is... I'm just hoping Derby get relegated so I can see the look on Rooney's face...

I doubt Wigan will be the last to go in to admin this season, there are rumours of several more struggling clubs in the Championship.

Wigan Ath relegated. Charlton Ath and Hull City join them in 3rd tier next season.
Tom Lockyer back in 3rd tier.
Leeds Champions, WBA promoted.
A touch of 'Gavin & Stacey' about the play offs. Brentford,Fulham,Cardiff and Swansea.

Great entertainment watching Sky Sports News with Jeff Stelling last night. I know a couple of Forest supporters. I probably won't broach football with them over the next couple of days. They were guaranteed a play-off place in the penultimate game of the season before conceding a 93rd min goal at Barnsley. And even then they could only miss out on a play-off place on the last day by losing at home, and Swansea winning away, and with a 5 goal turnaround. Yikes. Football is cruel.

Sheffield Wednesday have been deducted 12 points that will actually be implemented at the start of next season.
In the scenario it had been this season, it would of seen them finish bottom and playing Rovers next season.
