.....and some still found it in their hearts to boo him home to Hull City a few years ago, last game of season when he decided to step down from being chairman!(?) Oh some of their supporters are arseholes and he knows it. He did once use the phrase "I'm jealous of Rovers" and when prompted he mentioned both the supporters and our success in producing local talent. Which is why, one day I'm positive he'll walk away. It might be a month or a year or few more, but one day the £60m a year won't be written off and the tower of Babel will fall. It's quite incredible that Ashton has had not just one, but two sugar daddies (bisecting the two formed football clubs) where most clubs don't even get one in their history?! ... and I genuinely get the impression it's all taken for granted!

It's quite incredible that Ashton has had not just one, but two sugar daddies (bisecting the two formed football clubs) where most clubs don't even get one in their history?! ... and I genuinely get the impression it's all taken for granted! It's not £60m a year, there's no way you could hide that with FFP rules. Here we go, it's not for the faint hearted, trying to get in to the PL; Brief report on 1982's losses, Nov 2018.I think he wrote off £72m of debt, that included something like £45m spent on the ground. But even with the above, when he gets them into the PL the amount he's spent will look like a shrewd investment. I forget the numbers right now, it's something like £93m a year just for being there, then £96m in parachute payments if you tosh it up. But yes, their supporters are pretty arrogant and a quick look at their main forum gives the impression that they don't seem to realise how lucky they are. As a club there's nothing special at all about them, anything they achieve is because of him.

Duck this. Another thread to leave to foolly. Don't be like that, I was only trying to help. You said that you had no control over what tax you paid, I showed how you can pay as much as you like. Once you've decided how much more you want to pay and have written your cheque, here's the address to post it to; HMRC Self Assessment PO Box 4000 Cardiff CF14 8HR. Now, you've been well brought up, what do we say when somebody has helped you?

Well, don't stick the boot in to Lansdown when you use the exact same tax system and take advantage of rules that give you allowances etc. As I said, we probably have common ground discussing the system, but it's just cowardly and smacks of jealousy to criticise a self-made man who has done more for our City than you or I are ever likely to. You let yourself down a bit here. I hope you have a nice weekend too.

I think it was a match on Sky, City82 v someone else, and a propos of nothing, the Sky pre-match interviewer brought up the Rovers rivalry. As I remember it, Lansdown's reply could just have been "why do you mention Rovers, they are nothing to do with us", but the actual words out of his mouth were "I don't think we'll have to worry about them". So there was a double meaning: either "it's irrelevant to the match you are about to televise" or "we intend to establish a dominant empire that will crush them out of existence and indeed will strain every sinew to achieve that end". I know exactly what he meant with his comments. I had a couple of hours with him when he expressed his disappointment that when both clubs were in the 3rd tier at the same time, City supporters only appeared to care about how Rovers had got on and not that they were in the 3rd tier. He thought that they weren't setting their sights high enough and when they achieved promotion to the 2nd tier ands left us behind he mentioned that City fans wouldn't have to mention Rover again. He was more concerned about keeping up with the likes of Hull City and Brighton. I for one never want to see the demise of the 1982ers and cannot understand the logic of either sets of fans wanting to see their bitter enemies fly away to oblivion. We crave the thrill, challenge, bragging rights, euphoria of beating each other as though nothing else matters on the build up to and on match day. I long for the day when we can resume the battle with our most loved enemy....U.T.G.

And he'll get to fill that stadium of his for derbies. As will we. Something we haven't achieved for some time now.

As I remember it he said that in years to come no one will speak of Bristol Rovers. As always, I could be wrong but those words were repeated to me on more occasions than I care to remember

Green Eyed Monsters. :-) Local lad did well, backed his city and local sport. Decided to retire to Guernsey with his equally nice wife. Well done Steve and when you pop over to Jersey again, drop into 1 The Esplanade and check on the owners of Bristol Rovers to see if we are in good health. No envy here K just find it impossible to deal with a turncoat. As I see it, your team is for life and you don’t say goodbye because we moved to Bath, he could have afforded the taxi or chauffeur. There are a fair few photos of him with NH, on the tote end

There are more but I didn’t copy them I doubt that he even knew Nick Higgs during the Eastville Days. Steve Lansdown had only just started his business in the 80's and Nick Higgs would have only just left school.

I do know there are a few photos but I didn’t copy them as I felt it pointless. They are group photos
