Club News Work To Begin at Training Ground Site Next Week 2 Hours ago
The club is delighted to confirm that work will begin next week at The Colony to convert it into the training facility for the Bristol Rovers First team for the start of the 2020/21 season.
Contractors have been appointed to start phase one of the project, with an initial installation of first-team pitches and training area, gym, medical area, changing facilities, staff offices and communal areas being concluded this year.
MJ Abbott, who have worked with our ground staff to create the award-winning pitch at the Mem will also work on the two pitches at the Colony to ensure that they are of comparable industry-leading quality.
Club President Wael Al-Qadi said "I know that the training facilities of the club have been an area of great frustrations for many fans since the land was purchased. However, we are delighted to have now agreed plans to get this project underway and to provide Ben and our players the facilities they require to thrive.
"This significant investment into our infrastructure, in these difficult economic times, will undoubtedly form a core part of progression on and off the pitch moving forward. As stated in my previous letter, we want to bring through young, exciting talent and we hope that this new development will help ensure that we can do that."
First Team Manager Ben Garner said "This is a huge step forwards and something we have been working hard towards achieving since I joined the club. Having the right infrastructure and environment is a key part of our vision for the future.
"I am very grateful to our Club President Wael Al-Qadi for this substantial investment from both a financial and a personal perspective. Given the current economic climate this really highlights his commitment and dedication to building a successful football club. A great deal of effort and hard work has also been put in by Martyn Starnes and Shaun Roberts in being able to start phase one of the development. We very much look forward to starting work at our new training ground."
Longer-term, planning will be sought to further expand the project to house the club's academy and wider community initiatives.

Wael In/Out Shake it all about I'm intrigued how the usual mob who slag off everything and everyone Rovers related, will respond to this.

This doesn't seem to fit in with any of the conspiracy theories.

I don't think many saw this coming but absolutely massive news, really. Well done to the club.

Great news.
Sounds like a couple of pitches and some portakabins, but it's a very welcome start.
Hopefully the future phases mentioned will actually be progressed and we are working towards a planning application.

Will hope to see a full planning application relatively soon.

That's quite a big list for phase 1. I wonder how much it will add to our £24,000000 debt? Anyway, good news and once it's actually built it'll be even better.

It shouldn't add to the debt Basel as it is owned by a separate company, unless that company gets Bristol rovers to pay for the work. Great news for Rovers though to have a base of their own once more.

It's a positive news thread!
Who would've thought it?
There will always be some whom it will never be enough (you can't have the Colony without some talking out their colon!?), but we are humble Bristol Rovers with ambition and this is just the sort of good news drip we need to spark a bit of optimism around the place.
Bring it on!

I imagine that is a starting point for work

this appears to be very very good news - but let's just remember the Rovers motto boys and girls, 'I'll believe it when I'm sat in it'

back when WAQ was last on 20p, he said (in the vaguest possible waffle-terms) that the training pitch was linked to the stadium
so does this mean that the Post-backed takeover is still on, or that this is an interim small step of creating a couple of pitches to keep some (very welcome) sense of momentum?

I imagine that is a starting point for work Not sure if it is still valid, it may be but it wasn't fit for for purpose for a professional football club. Couldn't get it built in a couple of months anyway. More a case of hastily throwing down a couple of pitches with some temporary buildings because Cribbs wasn't an option and we ran out of options. I would love to believe that this is part of a genuine long term development strategy rather than a panic move forced upon us because we couldn't find anywhere else. Not going to imply that because that would be far too negative.

Don't expect you need planning permission to cut the grass and stick a couple of containers on your land to start off with
