Sorry, Garner said that he was involved in considering training ground sites? The location of possibly the most significant BRFC development project for ages involves 'a here today (and if I may suggest) gone tomorrow' first-team coach or manager? Really? He might be 'gone tomorrow', but he has come from a background as a highly rated coach from clubs with far better facilities than us. I would imagine his input into the make up of what is needed might be of interest to the club wanting to build it's own facility. I imagine DC had his own ideas about what he wanted/what was needed as well I assume a number of people would have been consulted about the site, and the requirements, both present and future. I feel sure he wouldn't be the one making the ultimate decision.....

Listening to part deux of Ben Garner's interview re The Colony he said him and Starnes were considering other sites for the training ground over the last couple of months. Sorry, Garner said that he was involved in considering training ground sites? The location of possibly the most significant BRFC development project for ages involves 'a here today (and if I may suggest) gone tomorrow' first-team coach or manager? Really? Makes sense doesn't it? You might as well use the expertise that's in the building so to speak. Be a bit odd if the manager didn't have any involvement at all.

Be more than a bit odd if Garner was asked about the site. Does he know anything about UK property acquisition? By all means as him how many cones and how many footballs he needs, but for him to be involved in selecting the site, nah.

I imagine DC had his own ideas about what he wanted/what was needed as well I disagree in principle, feeling strongly that a manager at this level (they really are often gone tomorrow) should fit the club, not the club fit the manager. I feel that the manager should need to know what the club want, more than the club should care what the manager wants. But I've been disillusioned by oft-failing intended long-term managerial appointments (not just at BRFC). The bit of yours I've highlighted is a very good point, though. I see now that this is someone who does know about the training and coaching benefits of superior training facilities. Point taken.

What PP maybe hasn't done is ask around to find out what people and players who have worked with him in the past think. Could there be a reason that this 'highly rated' coach ended up in a League which is barely the standard that you see in parks? Don't believe me? Watch some highlights on line, it's dire, kick and hope, defenders letting balls bounce in front of them then the ball bobs over everybody and it's a race towards the goal. It isn't good. As for what's needed. We'll go through a normal requirements elicitation process, so everybody involved will have their say, not just the owner, not just the players, not just the coach. Then we'll visit multiple other clubs and see what they've done, what worked, what didn't etc. If we do it any other way then Wael would need a check up from the neck up.

I was only saying the manager and his experience of better would probably be asked what he wants/thinks the club need, as DC would have or any other manager.

It was the 'Highly rated' bit that's hard to get my head around. Of course everybody always wishes everybody well and says nice things publicly when they leave, but a couple of mins on Google and you'll find people who said enough before he landed here for alarm bells to have started sounding. But ref asking him what he thinks he needs and why, yes, of course, then go away and evaluate what's he's said, to do anything else would be a bit silly.

I'm still unseasonally pleased about all this - maybe it is heightened by the strangeness of lockdown/lack of football, and the fact that during my whole life we've made almost no progress on club infrastructure in spite of spending b bazillions
I've just wondered where they plan to base the Gas Girls, and where they'll play their matches?

I imagine in theory the girls could play there for the time being, but I thought there were restrictions on being able to charge or have competitive games there (Unless I imagined that)

The manager both serves the present interests of the club and develops it in their own image. I'd argue that the best managers we've had have at least tried to do this on some level. Agreed that Garner has only shown evidence of interest in the latter, which has not been a welcome development.

Managers who build Rovers for years, rather than managers who fail Rovers for months, are great, when they exist. Garner has yet to prove himself the former though.

Groovy Train (ing ground) Haha! I was thinking more cows, sheep and ploughed fields Rex. Carrying on with this sort of thing,we could go with FARMAGEDDON. A Bristol made animation from Aardman. Any film that has a farmer based on Eric Morecambe is alright by me. Edit.Aardman recorded the Thatchers End and used it in one of their films.A brilliant football match between the Stone Age and Bronze Age,I think.

Nothing wrong with The Colony except it makes me think of lepers and ants.
