T H-D released, what little I saw of him he looked OK - fitness/injury issues. We took a punt. Sometimes it comes off (Bodin), and sometimes it doesn't...

from the Post....
With just eight appearances in all competitions this season, the England youth international’s injury record appears to have forced the club’s hand.
It remains to be seen whether wing-back Luke Leahy will be retained – ex-Rovers boss Graham Coughlan refused to divulge lengths of contracts – or if Garner will recruit in that area.

We owe Graham Coughlan a big thanks, like him or not, he kept us up. Retained list published today (15th).

Looking at the actual retained list rather than the released list, we seem to have cover everywhere. Except centre forward. If someone meets the JCH asking price, we are largely screwed. I guess someone will say get some loanees in, but they seem hit or miss, largely miss.
With three pro goalies, why would we have to look for a loan if the main one is injured. If they are pros and not good enough for the first team, what's the point?

Sad to hear this. Our only player of real potential quality. A cool head and a good footballing brain. Gutted if honest I wouldn't spend my money on the return we got. I thought he was a terrific player but we can't offer contracts to someone who can't stay fit. That's the only reason we were able to get him in the first place. He is clearly good enough to play a much higher level. Bit of a Jamie Shore situation.
I don't think any of those releases come as a surprise. But it would be nice to think there was some institutional memory at the club that can recall what happened the last 2 times at League 1 we let our most experienced centre-back go for cost reasons. Holloway thought Andy Thompson could replace Tilson - whoops. The general perception was that the club needed to move on from Steve Elliot who was seen as over the hill and expensive and could be replaced as number 1 by Danny Coles- again whoops. Both times we leaked goals like a sieve the next season. Both times we went down. Tilson went on to have at least 2 more good seasons at that level. Elliot went on to play nearly 200 more games. Lesson - don't scrimp on Centre Backs. I hope this is one exception to the 'youth revolution' - you need an experienced head back there.

Mark little is the same type of signing as holmes-dennis in that he is usually in the treatment room. Im shocked at how few players have gone and disappointed.

Length of contract dictates... Bennett is an obvious example, the club wants rid but he is still under contract so for now he stays

that's well-argued. I hope it's not right tho, obvs I guess the plan is for Tom Davies to lead the remaining 4 CBs, so that Harries can do a bit more of his passing out from the back?

From what I've seen he is comfortable on the ball and has an eye to a good pass/through ball.Tidy.Off the ball he's not a great. Yes,he may succeed.

He hasn't got there yet, but I think we could all see why BG saw potential with King Rickie it worked out (although he started with us from a higher baseline as top scorer at his previous club) with O'Toole/THD/most of DCs later signings etc etc it didn't - for a range of reasons it's in the balance, and maybe he'll thrive once Garnerball gets embedded
