I can't bear to watch TV or to hear radio. The dying is the most important news. But there's no hope in the remainder. I don't want 'the new normal'. I don't want 'social distancing'. I don't want to live online or on screen. I'm separating children from grandparents. And I hate it all. So football. Professional football is a spectator sport. It is played in front of grandstands. It is still played in front of terraces. The fuller both are, the better. Television football was killing football. Now that's all we will get. It's over. I can no longer see how Rovers exist. It's just one more thing to be sad about.

Millions play football in front of "1 man and his dog".It is of course a spectator sport, but it is also a 'play' sport.
18 years my local football days, loved it.
I'll end it there and spare you,as I'm feeling tempted to reminisce.

There are still to many of us who are emotionally invested for it to cease to exist.
However, I do not think it can continue to exist in its current form (which an extremely optimistic person might even see as a potentially positive thing if people get sufficiently motivated around a 'new model' of football at the end of this). It is hard to see how lower league football emerges from this unscathed. However, even if 'Bristol Rovers' is only reformed as some Gasheads playing 5-a-side the essence of it will endure.
Or, alternatively, this too shall pass.

If somehow all professional football dis banded, went bust, bankrupt, admin or whatever, you still couldn't stop folk watching football.
Go up the Downs or BAWA or any local amateur match of all ages and there's usually someone watching.
We'll survive. Or we'll rebrand. And there will always be a hardcore who'll turn up and watch any old sh*t.....the boycott cup proves this.

Football behind closed doors could benefit Rovers, sell the Mem to pay off debts. Play at Colony, couple of temporary buildings for changing rooms, produce a 2 hour programme including live match and sell it for a tenner a time. Failing that if the club goes t1ts up maybe 2 or 3 phoenix clubs will start up at the bottom of the pyramid or in local football, really the club is just a name now.

No decision by League One clubs. No surprise there. No - I'd be surprised if League One clubs can ever agree on anything. It's probably the most diverse League in the country in terms of the range of clubs that play in it. Not sure there's really very much Sunderland and Accrington Stanley have in common!

I can't bear to watch TV or to hear radio.- Agree The dying is the most important news - Agree But there's no hope in the remainder - Agree I don't want 'the new normal' - Agree I don't want 'social distancing'- Agree I don't want to live online or on screen -Agree I'm separating children from grandparents. - Agree And I hate it all. So football.- Agree Professional football is a spectator sport. - Agree It is played in front of grandstands - Agree It is still played in front of terraces. -.Agree The fuller both are, the better - Agree Television football was killing football - Agree Now that's all we will get. It's over - Agree Its over for 'moneybags' premier league football clubs - The world we live in will never be the same - millions of people will be laid off there will be a cull of shops, pubs, restaurants etc - we all will have to start living within our means - we all now know what's of paramount importance and that is family and friends None of us, who live through this awful sh#tfest will accept that it's morally right for premier league players to be paid, every single week, the value of a house, which most of us have to shrimp and save for 25 years......I truely believe ( and hope ) that football at the top end is in for bloody good kicking. I can no longer see how Rovers exist - I'am 'going out on a limb' on this one - I believe that some of the small poorly supported clubs may well go to the wall - However the ones that do survive we will see a renaissance of 'real football' which will include Bristol Rovers. It's just one more thing to be sad about - The sad part is the daily battle to keep sane whilst we all tough it out - We will never die because the 'mould was broken' when we signed up to support the Gas because if nothing else we are a fu##ing resilient lot! UTG

It's just one more thing to be sad about. Chin (or beak) up. But some interesting points... I'm genuinely excited about watching the Union Berlin / Bayern Munich game today. German football has led the way in Europe re: CV-19, but not without some criticism. The German 'ultras' have complained bitterly about football behind closed doors (BCD). The main thing that drew me towards Union in the first place was the unbelievable atmosphere at the stadium. Take that away, and what have you got? Also to a degree, home advantage is taken away. Union get fired up by the passion of the crowd, and kick everything that moves - they have officially committed the most fouls in the Bundesliga. Get in. en.as.com/resultados/futbol/alemania/2019_2020/ranking/equipos/faltas_cometidas/ and their team of relatively lowly paid, less technically gifted, harder working players eke out results against superior opposition. Behind closed doors at the Stadion an der Alten Forsterei? How will that pan out? I'm just hoping they won't get smashed by Bayern BCD. KO 5pm. EISERN UNION! (& UTG).

Professional football without crowds is of no interest at all to me. Will not watch it or follow it.

It's actually cheaper for me to fly to Berlin than get the tube & train to Bristol. And the match day tickets are cheaper in the Bundesliga than League 1... Anyway. Without crowds the viewing is surreal. Maybe it's 25% of the 'enjoyment' you would usually get watching it with a full stadium? As a short term fix - for top tier football, that's fine by me. Sunday afternoon, good weather, couple of ciders, watching my 'German' team on telly... yes, it felt a little bit like normality. So that was good.
