Robin Hood of course. The one with Richard Green not Kevin C! Late 50s early 60s. Proper stuff. And The Virginian on a Friday night to celebrate the start of the weekend. UTG! The Virginian was another favourite of mine.

Do It Yourself Film Animation Show. This was utterly weird, made The Open University presenters look like they were on speed. Truly one of the most bizarre things ever to make it to broadcast. Paint Along With Nancy. Some frumpy middle aged American who looked like she managed a couple of weeks of art lessons and somehow got her own TV show. God there was some dross broadcast in the 1970s. Magic roundabout, what was that all about? Looked like some poor bloke's extreme acid trip converted into a kid's show. It's a miracle that our generation are as sane as we are having been fed that stuff.Given the responses so far, that explains the general level of insanity of the generation born in the 60's. The beaten generation, the beaten generation. Reared on a diet of prejudice and misinformation. And bizarre kid's TV shows. There are more, many more. Ludvig. WT absolute F.... Looks like the criteria for selection was along the lines of; Are you a failed artist, Have you destroyed most of your brain with acid, Do you enjoy terrorising kids? If you can answer yes to the above, apply in barely legible writing to; Head of programming BBC.

Ha! You beat me to it Rex, I was gonna nominate the Flashing Blade & Banana Splits (the writers of this show were clearly on something strong)! I also liked the Double Deckers. Of course the Double Deckers ! I loved that (again great theme tune) . I remember one episodes which where 'men from outer space' were roaming the streets and in turned out they were just promoting a new sweet, it absolutely terrified me at the time! 😄

Since you ask, it was a French production and both political and allegorical Broadly... Dougal was De Gaulle Dylan was the hippy youth of the time. The spirits of 68 and all that Florence was La France Profonde, the rural and traditional France. Or maybe that was Ermintrude I've forgotten who Brian was Zebedee was God, who always joined them at the end

Don't think 'spirit of '68' is a thing as it was first broadcast in 1964. It's just a bad tab, or maybe a very good one, animated. Anyway, Jasper Carrot has it nailed.

Marine Boy Flashing Blade (Love the theme tune and the terrible dubbing of actors words always fascinated me) Banana Splits The Flashing Blade was the worst dubbed series in the history of the world. Good theme tune though. White Horses and Belle & Sebastian - also both great theme tunes - takes you back to 7 years old in an instant. I'm also sensing a lot of summer holidays kids TV coming through. Robinson Crusoe (again very badly dubbed from French, and another haunting theme tune) - I always was back in school before the series ended. Did he ever get off of the island?

Anyway, I see your Magic Roundabout and raise you H R Puffinstuff. How you gonna try to explain that away. Bloody terrifying, that's what it was!

The Singing Ringing Tree (Tales from Europe) used to scare the pants off me!.. I think that was meant to indoctrinate British kids with commie ideas,it just left me with a mistrust of dwarves.

Saturday evening just after Grandstand, down my Nana's in Cardiff while she made chips in the fryer in the kitchen, Dr Who terrified me to death. 1970's is known for being the shows golden era, Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. Baker is one of my heroes along with Bowie and Dalglish.

Banana Splits. Then years later,US punk band the Dickies released the Bannana Split song. I think most of us got it on yellow vinyl. I still have it somewhere in the dark recesses of the attic. Banana Splits, HR Puffinstuff (I don`t really remember anything about this except at the time I thought it was awesome), Swap Shop and thanks to kidgas, Double Deckers.
