Must be Porridge..(just ahead of Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads) I think Porridge also passes my Father Ted test, in that no matter how many times I have seen an episode, I can still watch it again. Recently watched all 21 episodes on Netflix, followed by Going Straight on YouTube. Still sharp and stands the test of time, though Going Straight dated a bit

Still sharp and stands the test of time, though Going Straight dated a bit Going Straight never quite worked as well as Porridge did it. I actually remember sitting down to watch the first ever episode of Porridge. It started at my bed time (do kids still have a set bed time?) but I was allowed to stay up to watch it. Maybe because that was such a treat is why the programme seemed special to me. Also I remember being so shocked when hearing of Richard Beckinsales death. I would have been 14 by then. so would have known a couple of grandparents die, but for some reason , Beckinsales death really shook me.

Maybe someone on here could clarify if a story I heard about a supporters club meeting where the Rovers board were present is an apocryphal one or not. The board were taking questions from the floor, those asking the questions were asked to give their name as they did so. One guy named Geoff Pike piped up with a question without giving his name and so was then asked 'What is your name'. I'm sure you can guess what one quick witted member then reputedly shouted out I really do hope it's a true story!

Geoff is a friend of mine, although I cannot claim to have made the "don't tell him Pike" comment!

also "CHEERS" .... hello Norm!! one of the name s on the rolling credits ...MARY FUKUTO..!! If that's a reference to the surname, I think you may be losing something in pronunciation. Assuming it's Japanese, pronounce the Us as you would the Os in the word 'soon'. Not funny any more is it. Sorry about that.

He was 31, even got married in the last episode of Going Straight to Ingrid. Excellent in Rising Damp too.

If only 1 - then Fawlty Towers. Top 6 would also have Father Ted, Blackadder, Porridge, Dads Army, The Office. Bit like music really - seems that the golden age was 70's/80's...

Favourite TV sitcom ever. Taxi, I’ve yet to see anything that comes close although it’s not strictly your standard sitcom but a comedy

Must be Porridge..(just ahead of Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads) Not really a sitcom though and, like my choice, a comedy. There was no continuity but different stories each time. I’m surprised no one has even mentioned Dallas or any of the US ones. My mum used to be the uberfuhuer of the remote so we were force fed it, along with bloody neighbours
