A thoughtful member has suggested a thread for people to 'check in' every now and again as we go through these difficult times. I know a lot of people read, but don't necessarily post. Post to show you're OK. Post if you're feeling a bit down. Can others help or lend support? I know this isn't Rovers specifically related. Gasheads, Sh*theads and any other Heads might need help. All welcome. UTG.
Hope everyone is safe and well, mentally and physically.
Keeping in touch with loved ones is vital. Like many others, we have downloaded the House Party app and last night, I ran a quiz for a group of 10 friends in Totterdown. Unruly bunch (including my lady wife) were all drunk. Lovely to "see" everyone though. It's a great app.
To everyone who uses the site, take care of you and yours and please stay safe.
Oh that's clever. A forum house party app might be good for anyone who needs a bit of company or distraction over the next few weeks? No good looking to me to set it up, I would have no idea whatsoever. But some of you clever types might be able to sort it and maybe organise an occasional get together for quizzes or some other form of light entertainment?
And thank you, Admin. I'm okay so far. Hope everyone else is too.
I decided to ride this one out in Sydney although it’s very stressful knowing all your family and friends are 14,000 miles away and going through the challenges of isolation.
It’s interesting how quickly I’ve lost interest in parts of football already. The premier league, its culture and lack of self awareness is offputting to such an extent that ill discard post covid.
Once this is over it will be interesting to see how many rovers fans will revert back to habit and attend matches but how many will not. Particularly at the prices charged.
Football is definitely not bigger than life and death!!
Yep, I find it all a bit gross and distasteful how, when society goes into meltdown, some of the highest paid people on this planet are about as much use to society as an ashtray on a motorbike. So they stay in their gated communities and let the *real* heroes of society risk their lives bailing us out for an nth of these guy’s wealth. I know footballers have been doing the odd thing here and there to help out on social media etc but I’d like to see all the players in the premiership have a whip round for the NHS once this is over. If the clubs have put together a 5 million golden handshake for Scudamore then they can all dig deep for the health workers risking their lives.
*ahem* didn’t mean to turn this into a rant. So I shall exit stage left by saying I hope everyone is well and hanging in there with the lockdown measures. For most of us a few weeks or even a few months will be just a fraction of our lifetimes and something we simply have to grin and bear for the greater good. But with a bit positivity, we will come through it.
Veteran of two weeks Sars Quarantine in 2003 and now on week 6 of self-imposed Covid lockdown, staying positive and riding out the storm, making plans for the simple things in life that I took for granted once this is contained, stay safe and well Gasheads everywhere!.
Never thought I would miss doing the prediction league so much. The weekly contact with the members is so refreshing for the mind. In the summer months, other things take its place and it is planned for, but to just stop and be home alone, is a very lonely time. I am well and will survive without Rovers, but I came to the UK for Rovers and I miss watching. Best wishes to all on here especially those members of the Prediction League.
I've been on my own personal lockdown a week longer than most, I travel all over the UK with my work and a week before the nationwide lockdown my boss thought it wasn't a good idea for people to be travelling all over the place so he grounded me. I spent my time contacting customers last week (electrical supply chain being considered essential business) and as more and more of them reduced staffing levels I have just been doing mind numbingly boring stuff such as updating customer contact details.
I am furloughed as from tomorrow so am not officially allowed to do work related stuff although I suspect I will, alongside a spot of gardening, arguing with people on Facebook, completing X Hamster and wondering whether shopping for Glenmorangie is considered essential ( I am down to my last 3 bottles)
Self employed decorator , shut off from work last Tuesday having just stripped bare a clients wallpaper from her dining room, she is on her own and in her 80’s so no choice, catch up time to do the ‘ will do it later ‘ jobs, garden clearance but nowhere to dump the rubbish, otherwise all good here, OH recovering from minor hand op so has to be ultra careful of a scar healing, Daughter caught in the middle of a house sale not sure if her ‘new’ property will actually become hers in the near future, but the dogs get me out early doors for hour and more taking in a spot of birdwatching (4 jays this am) at the same time, not too concerned if the football season resumes as many would like, more important things to be worried about, keep safe all
if your smoking in this house............. then you'd better be on fire
Personally, all well and good here in sunny Teignmouth. Shut my business down last Tuesday and furloughed my employees - fitting double glazing is not essential. Quietly seething at trade customers and joe public regularly e-mailing/texting asking if I can "quickly open up" for them to collect some fascia boards/trims/what have you.
Thoughtlessness like this means it will be longer before I can see my daughter in Burnham On sea who is on 12 weeks "house arrest" with underlying health issues, but don`t worry about that, you earn yourself a couple of hundred pounds fitting a bit of fascia you selfish git.
Sorry. Rant over.
I am also avoiding reading the usual social media in case I really lose the plot.
