It's tricky isn't it ? It is hard to tell with these old black & white photo's, obviously we know the colour of our strip but that striped shirt is either going to be blue and black or red and black which could possibly indicate either Sunderland or AFC Bournemouth ? If the former then I am going to go for Ian Porterfield whereas if the latter well let's just say Trevor Cherry but heck what do I know ??

I thought that the shirt could be green and black of Plymouth, Fulham had a red and black striped away kit in the mid 70s too.

I first thought it was Tony Powell of Bournemouth but I’m not sure, too short I think. Thought it was the home match v Bournemouth in 72/73. Pretty sure it’s that season, shirt clue. UTG!

Rovers played Argyle over 2 legs in the League cup first round in 74/75,pretty sure that Warboys got the goal in the game down there and I wondered if the picture was from that game.

Ah right. Well I did say I'm no good on faces, and back then everyone had the same hairstyle so that doesn't help. It was the bloke over on the left I was looking at, not the one heading the ball. There's a team pic on this page but it's small. I like the text underneath though - norepartee.wordpress.com/2018/05/21/1973-74-plymouth-argyle-away-lcs-fi/If anyone's really bored - the Plymouth Squad for that season is here - www.11v11.com/teams/plymouth-argyle/tab/players/season/1974/And this page lets you find any of their players you fancy, not sure if there will be photos of all of them - www.greensonscreen.co.uk/gosdb-players1.asp?scope=1,2,3,4,5,6,7 I have cupboards to clean so I'll leave you all to play - or not, as the case may be.

Bournemouth’s stripes were three wide stripes that season. So I don’t think it’s Bournemouth. UTG!

The one I posted was from the boxing day 1973 game (I think - I've got myself in a bit of a muddle tbh). Not sure if it's the same game as the original pic we're all puzzling over.

Yes I think that the one you posted is the Boxing day game,I think that's Mike Green in the picture and he went to Plymouth at the end of the season. Can the original picture be made bigger ?

If you click on it it comes up bigger. Are we concluding it's definitely Plymouth?
