And further FWIW (league games) assists + goals = total: Sercs (22) 4 + 1 = 5 Clarke (27) 3 + 1 = 4 Ogogo 1 (27) 1 + 3 = 4 Upson 0 (33) 0 + 2 = 2 Rodman 2 (29) 2 + 2 = 4 Leahy 2 (32) 2 + 0 = 2 The only firm conclusion I would draw is that we need more goals and assists from mid-field. Which is a bit blindingly obvious... More movement and actual attackers upfront would of course help our midfield players.

In the conference season and Div 2 promotion years he was getting forward more and every couple of months would score 'a screamer'. Maybe the step up to Div 1 means he is now more naturally suited to defensive duties. Played very well Tuesday in that role... He was always the defensive one in Clarke & Lines, too. Clarke can play in a third division midfield, but don't expect him to be the flair player, creating many chances. Absent an in-form Sercombe, we need another technically-skilled and creative midfielder to play with the likes of Clarke, Ogogo, and Upson.

I think most people 'here' see Ollie Clarke's best position as a defensive mid-fielder. Strong in the tackle and breaks up play, but that's about it. In the conference season and Div 2 promotion years he was getting forward more and every couple of months would score 'a screamer'. Maybe the step up to Div 1 means he is now more naturally suited to defensive duties. Played very well Tuesday in that role... I said I wasnt sure where I read it .you have confirmed for me it was the junior forum.ollie seemed to have a good understanding with lines and that allowed him to play to his capabilities whereas with ogogo and upson around him he seems to have to play a role he is not suited to I think Ollie's role as youth player was getting forward midfielder and scoring. Box to box but a more advanced player position. DC changed him into defensive. I understand every conception about Ollie's performances recently, but I still think with right personnel and formation, Ollie can be a formidable midfielder at mid to upper third division football. Top few in 3rd division ever present, he is not. Captain, he is not. Still alot to offer though..

For what it's worth, league goal assists this season; Sercs 4 Clarke 3 Ogogo 1 Upson 0 Rodman 2 Leahy 2 Hare 2 Little 1 THD 1 last three need to play more games to have meaningful stats. Oh and Tom had 2. None from JCH then?

I think there is a place for him especially with his longevity at the club, being from Bristol and must therefore keep his performance level high consistently. This hasn't always been the case this season, he played better last season under GC. He benefits from the players around him and too often goes missing or misplaces simple passes. But he is more combative than Upson, better on the ball than Ogogo and certainly seems more committed than Sercombe at the moment. At his best he is in my 11 but he needs to do it every week not 1 in 3.
