If I recall, coppell had some depression issues which was behind him leaving city. I realise this is ripe for a joke, but let's not. A rated coach, with an exp ex manager and world class player who's not getting paid, if people are going to find negs in this then you will find negs in everything. I’ll have a go! I think getting someone in is absolutely the right idea...but the choice of Coppell leaves me feeling very underwhelmed. His profile is too much like McGhee for my liking- not done anything of note in management for a long while, past depression issues have to raise questions about whether he still has any drive to make a big contribution here. What does he know of modern coaching ideas seeing as he has not really managed at a decent level for a long time? On a final note I wonder how people would have felt when Coughlan had us storming up the table if they were told that our next management duo would be the pairing that took ATK India by storm. Managers go to India to get one last pay day not as the start of a springboard to success in the football league. It’s all very underwhelming. Still, maybe we will win tonight and it will all come good but I’ve no real confidence that this path the board have gone down is going to bring us anything but defeat and a long period of regret afterwards.

you rang the wrong guy up Ben I think that’s spot on. I hate that we have to resort to footballing dinosaurs like Pulis but if you are going to get a dinosaur in then make sure it’s Pulis and not McGhee or Coppell! Pulis wouldn’t come here though. Can’t imagine him helping out for free and we wouldn’t be able to afford what he wants.

Disrespectful on Tony he is always talking up Rovers on Quest like his best mate Ollie so don't think he would turn down a challenge like BRFC. He has worked with Garner at Albion and remains open to offers. His remarkable record in management is envied by many and he frightens the players to death with his stare does not need to say anything but you have to be at least six feet tall. A talented coach and still has a lot to offer.

It all just needs tightening up both Defensively and Strike wise, absolutely right to tap up an old Sage - its exactly whats needed at this precise moment - I'am certain this will result it less sloppy goals being conceded and less chance of damaging corner posts, or knocking over small children or elderly gentlemen wearing 'Peaky Blinder hats' (assuming they are allowed into the ground), when shooting for goal.
Bloody atrocious start however some promising football starting to emerge from the ashes- once we get that first win confidence will surge and we will then embark on an exhilarating white knuckle ride. Trust me i know it takes an old sage to know one.

you rang the wrong guy up Ben He did but it just kept going to answer phone and tony never rang back. Cant imagine why? Luckily steve coppell was desperate as no other club would touch after his man city and bristol city antics.

If he helps to turn things around then he will deserve to be paid unlike those who aren't currently performing and will be shown the door and no longer paid. That's evolution.

Hey look on the bright side....SC is so obviously doing this for free!
Who's got anything better to do on a winter's day in the middle of a storm, than stand outside watching a bunch of strangers run around a bit.....for fun and no pay?
I mean, come on....this was obviously the plan all along when GC left. Doesn't smat of desperation at all..

Has it been confirmed that it's Coppell? This thread starts with no name, other forum has been talking about him for a week. No official com, ents and nothing in the press.

It's in the post but for some reason I can't link the article. "Ben Garner has called on the services of “wonderful man” Steve Coppell to help break Bristol Rovers’ 13-game winless run.
Coppell, who has 42 England caps and more than 300 appearances for Manchester United to his name, has been at Rovers’ past two games and involved in recent training sessions.
The former Reading, Crystal Palace and Bristol City manager, who the Gas boss knows well from his time at Selhurst Park as a coach, has been working alongside Garner on the grass at Cribbs in the past week."
Go to the Rovers page on the post website and scroll down to find the full story. Or maybe it will work if I mess about with it - yes, copy and paste should do it - bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/garner-steve-coppell-bristol-rovers-3828689
