Just got back!
In a few words.... just not good enough yet. There isn't enough quality to mount a serious challenge on play off , from evidence shown today.
The first 30 mins were very encouraging.
Something happened to our midfield soon after us scoring (from their mistake) and a very decent finish from Jonners set us up to what we thought was going to be a better performance.
On the whole it was a better performance. We played on with two supporting JCH but Coventry were wise to it and for me were first to the ball, and the second ball making it difficult for us to even find our own man with simple passes. They pushed us back and looked threatening, somehow finding space behind our defence. At times they looked like they had more men than us and I would say apart from two occasions they looked comfortable in opposition to us.
I'm not talking about ref or their gamesmanship or some of the bizarre decisions, because all of that were true.
I'm talking about a bonefide promotion team coming down here and easily deserving to win because they were the better team. But for most the match we competed. Genuinely competed. Two brilliant bits of quality helped them (even though second goal thd got caught in possession), but all I can say is encouraging, but no where near close enough to where we need to be.
Really liked m o m JCH, JML and Ginnely contribution today. And Alfie.
Not sure about Keeps, Tom Davies needless card, Upson and Ollie. Not up to form for me.
Wycombe next.... what could possibly go wrong?

I make it 11 games, 3 draws, no wins, including defeat to a team joint bottom of the entire League. |

Did not know his contract extended that far. But he is trying his best. Wycombe will be a no pressure match no one expects us to win. Jc’s goal was highlight. |

For those who haven’t seen it we were on it better today than score line suggests, particularly defensively. We didn’t give a good football side much throughout the game. Truth is Coventry scored two very good goals for a half time lead the balance of game didn’t suggest. Coventrys goals weren’t wonder strikes, butfantastic team play. Every week a city loan has great game against us. Walsh has had a good month against us. sure Coventry asked the ref at one point to give Ogogo a second yellow, they conned the ref a few time’s to see the game out, but we do too. Jono is probably top of the table for soft free kicks won. what’s frustrating after that is when it’s a genuine foul you don’t get it. Bad refs are inconsistent refs, but this badger was worst than most because he unnecessarily showed a card so early he actually encouraged it and invited pressure on himself. But I also like the way Coventry Set up, and play, and stick at it. If a side goes fourth only scoring from dead balls and the clinging on with a side packed with defenders its a false position, go fourth playing proper football is a true position, because only that kind of football can bring you the second even the third goal some games need. pre season started at 3 o’clock today. It’s going well. i saw a bit more of Josh Barrel when he came on today (can a professional player be that shape without being named Gascoigne) a sulky teen demeanour, waving his head and shouting at officials. What the 4x have we signed is it apparent yet? |

We are in a very average L1, I expect us to go on to the field expecting to win every game. Just listen to yourself, conceding defeat to a tin pot outfit from High Wycombe, and you are the person always posturing trying to pretend that you are a better supporter than everybody else. |

Clarke played well from the start and was up for it, in fact as you say the team was on it and Cov couldn't cope with it first 30. We had some good chances and the goal was with the run of play, in fact their equaliser was against it. There was plenty of needle as you get from playing the same team 3 times in a month, Davies clearly bought their wind up tactics early doors as an ex-Cov. The ref was poor from the start, those 2 bookings were knee jerk. They are supposed to take their time with decisions, not flash cards. Cov deserved to win, but we unfortunately gave the ball away for their 2nd. I was pleased with how we started and against lesser teams we will win those games if we start like that. Cov brought 1400, we were right by them in the South Stand and got a couple of gas chucked out for some classless baiting. My chant of 'Where is your ground ' fell on deaf ears. It kicked off a bit after we scored and they gave JCH too much stick, made me wonder why. Like the high press, odd to see Cov leave 2 wide players outside the box on our corners. Brave but odd, might try that in my boys team, makes the opposition think anyway. Not sure I agree re keeper, he's brave and commanding but that comes with risk, nice Cruyff turn in thr 6yd box, what's the worry....? Bloody hell, just read Robins blame a 3hr coach journey for their crap start, how about the other team being good, they're allowed to be you know, just bloody leave earlier knob!! |

I think they only left two up for corners in second half, with the wind behind meant clearances could travel further and be easier to break.

To me, Coventry were the best team to visit The Mem this season and we outplayed them for 35 minutes. What's worrying is the apparent lack of fitness of a few of our mob.
There really can't be any excuse for a professional footballer to be overweight in February.

To me, Coventry were the best team to visit The Mem this season and we outplayed them for 35 minutes. What's worrying is the apparent lack of fitness of a few of our mob. There really can't be any excuse for a professional footballer to be overweight in February. That's something that I've been thinking about. Under Coughlan we seemed to be able to push teams around in the last 20 mins of games, now we look out on our feet after 70 mins. As for your last point, maybe somebody can ask Akinfenwa what the secret is next week? |

Very strange; I ducked up the wording of my post, as I wasn't even in the West yesterday, and saw Coventry only in the cup four weeks ago. Sorry, o2. Similar how they overtook us during the game again, mind. |
