Very unlucky played very well - started to see the managers style of football which is pleasing to the eye - well impressed with Ginnelly - on our way back- just need that first win! UTG/STB That's the attitude we need currently Is it? We've just come within a few seconds of equalling the record for not scoring a goal in our entire 137 year history, and that's with probably the best striker in L1 or L2 in the team. In Bolton's last 3 games they had 42, 37 and 36% possession, tonight they had 51%. All still sounds very worrying to me. |

At least we scored but the rest of it was very poor when you consider what a youthful, confidentless bottom of table work in progress Bolton are. Confidentless, Emperor? Confidentless? Jesus Christ, Emperor. |

Bolton 2 shots on target out of 11 - Gas 6 shots on target out of 14 which is a vast improvement on our recent run - As I commented 'very pleasing on the eye' GC had done a great job grinding out results but the watch was tough - tonight's performance was the first insight of what Ben's style of football is all about - We have a tough match coming up against Coventry - However based on what I watched tonight I think we could nail that first win - so it's 'half pint full' for me and lots of them! I think garners ideas on the game fit in with waels dream of young players being developed and slick passing on the deck football.
It all fits in with the top class training facility and the cat 2 academy which have been put on hold for the time being.
Like many supporters he would not have enjoyed the brutal pragmatic coughlan style of play so you can easily imagine him being taken in by garners pain before gain theories as he builds a new team.
Some posters here and on gaschat are going along with the garner plan and maybe they are correct and a bright young team will come out of all this.
I just feel like we have needlessly thrown away a great position in the league and the whole thing will end in tears sometime in september next season.
But we do have some very good players so hopefully i am badly wrong on this.

Now, we've had some belters over the years: relegated to the conference by a team wearing our shirt, missing out on the play offs under Holloway, the UWE debacle, not qualifying for the first round of the league cup, Santa's Grotto etc etc, but is appointing a manager with no experience while in the league one play offs then tumbling from the top of the form table to bottom in a month and a half (whilst being the last team to score a league goal at the turn of the year) the most vintage Rovers thing ever? I just wish I was a s**thead because I would be loving it and taking my hat off to Garner for his masterful destruction of turning promotion contenders into relegation candidates in double quick time. It's almost impressive how badly he has done. |

I am all for being positive. However, a god awful draw against Fleetwood and a draw against a team who will be comfortably relegated (even without the points reduction) is more likely to have me reaching for the Prozac and not the champagne.
I am all for giving managers time and in our current shambolic off-field state we have little choice other than to do just that, but based on current evidence, I can't see past anything other than a relegation struggle next season. It is beyond staggering that we could even be dragged into it this season given the position of the club when Garner took over.

He is Moyes following Fergie, relatively speaking Blackpool bottom of the form table, last 6 games, then us. Portsmouth top. |

Rex - Absolutely agree with you - the off the field state of the club is a disgrace - We have lost two very good managers as a result of it - Ben took over, once again I agree with you 'gawd' awful set of results - The point I am trying to make is having WATCHED last nights match - the team performance was a vast improvement on what's gone on before - therefore if this is replicated plus ten% on Saturday our first win could be 'up for grabs'

Don't underestimate how poor Bolton were. They gave us plenty of space and we were able to knock it around without too much trouble. They passed the ball to us regularly! They looked like a side already relegated and played without much heart. Let's see how we do against half decent opposition. Of course I'm 'happy' with a point. But if we can't beat an outfit like Bolton, you have to wonder where that first win of 2020 is coming from. Glass half empty from me. No alarms and no surprises there then.

You teach as you've been taught and I see a lot of Palace in his set-up; a midfield full of hitmen, a solid enough defence, a striker who frustrates as much as he delights, and heavy reliance on a tricky winger who turns defenders inside out. My take on Garner, having iFollowed all his games in charge, is if he succeeds in getting a decent strike partner and creative midfielder through the door in this window, gets Barrett to shed a kilo or two and moves out the deadwood then we could be watching mundane football topped with a few flashes of brilliance. No, I don't like watching Palace much either, apart from you-know-who.

I'm still a bit worried, the last team to cough up 50% possession to Bolton were Southend, and they have actually somehow managed to get even less points than a dreadful Bolton team this season. Let's see what happens on Saturday. If you are right then we'll be able to see the improvement against a team that we played at home just a couple of weeks ago. Looking forward to no more hoofball and the players looking as if they didn't meet for the first time on the way to the ground  |
