If you haven't clocked the sublime and very relevant post from Mickey Barrett, then please take a couple of minutes to absorb:
I don't much watch us in the flesh these days, years since I have really. Just to get that out there first. I remember standing on the North Enclosure at Eastville one night when fans were giving a director (Stephens?) a really hard time after a home defeat when the old place had been rocking and we'd as usual f'd it up on the edge of promotion. I was about 18 I guess and got caught up in the frenzy shouting abuse and even now nearly 40 years later I'm ashamed by how the mob, of which I was part, ranted and railed as this balding bespectacled man stood there and took it. I shouted 'you don't even want to go up' and he looked right at me. Same as when I shouted once at Brian Williams to 'get a move on' in the 90th minute of a game when we were 2 v 0 down at home and he turned to the north enclosure and said with complete authority 'f off'. Fair.
I went to a Bath v Yeovil match in the mid/late 80s, Randall was playing for Yeovil and Graham Withey for Bath. Cup game I think. Twerton of course. Both came to the bar later, Withey was a friend of the manager of the band I was in. Randall told me that city fans are all c...s. Decent insight. Withey asked me if I was a north enclosure boo boy. I mumbled something unsatisfactory and he knew then that I was.
All this background to what end? I took my daughter back to exeter university today. We got there about 2:30 and driving in I realised how close I was to the ground so I parked up and walked. Not been there since about 85. Ground is nicely developed, a big terrace behind one goal and 2 decent modern stands running the length of the pitch. The away end, which I remember as a crumbling heap of low level concrete, seems to have been spruced up with a roof and everything. Well, a roof anyway. Not that there were any away fans in there, all 82 from Cambridge must have been elsewhere.
Had a chat with lots of their fans on the terrace. They are rightly very proud of the club and it's neat modernised ground and all the community stuff they do. The first half the team was terrible and there was a bit of low level moaning. Second half they seemed to have been given a managerial rocket and were transformed, pace down the wings and some coherent movement. 2 well worked goals and in the end well deserved.
The only consolation was that the people I spoke to said if I'd been a City fan they'd have been less welcoming.
I don't know but we seem to be being left years behind.
Yes! We are very much being being left behind, but who is to blame? Is it the UWE? DC? GC? or BG? (the latest Scapegoat). Or are we the 'fans' the 'root cause' of all that's currently wrong with the club, for having no patience?
Yes! We all would like a new training ground a new stadium or a redeveloped Mem. Have we been assured this will happen in the fullness of time ?
Yes! We have! When pressed ' I get It' retort comes to mind. Any sign of any of this taken place any time soon? - Errr No! - Do we know who is to blame?
Yes! We all know where the buck stops, but are we either reluctant or to scared of the repercussions to collectively make our voices heard?
Yes! Therefore, is the conclusion as Adam Ant once sang 'STAND and Deliver' or Naff off?

After being nearly bankrupted by Uri Geller’s mates, the only option for Exeter fans was to run the club themselves.
They have been doing it for just shy of 20 years now and have done a hell of a job. I would say better than even Wimbledon, with a fraction of the publicity.
It’ll never catch on here, we’re too busy blaming each other and looking for a non existent White Knight.

Investigated a little - Couple of media soundbites on the Trusts running Exeter and Wimbledon: Are Exeter City supporters the most powerful fans in England? - Exeter City are owned by their fans through the trust, a group of more than 3,000 supporters who nominate four of the eight directors who run the club. The Dons Trust is the democratic supporters’ organisation that owns AFC Wimbledon football club, giving fans control of the future of our club. Anybody can join and the Trust is run on a one-member, one-vote basis. We currently have over 3000 members around the world. Elections are held each year to decide which members sit on our board. After all we have been through maybe the answer has been staring us in the face all along. We could be looking potentially at member numbers larger than Exeter and Wimbledon's combined. Of course its all 'pie in the Sky' unless somebody has the time and energy to kick start proceedings. Certainly within the ranks there are a lot of bright articulate people, from all 'works of life' whose input would be invaluable. As you say there is no White Knight or rich Russian's (ie Bournemouth) to take us forward and before the current board cause any more damage, with broken promises and lacking any ambition, inadvertently paving the way for Team Bristol to seduce the next generation of supporters. Can it? Could it? Will it ever get off the ground? Doubtful just wishful thinking i guess...................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Doubtful just wishful thinking i guess................................................................................................................................................................................................................... isn't the reality the value of BRFC[CURRENTLY] as opposed to Exeter and Wimbledon, where they were both virtually broke and almost valueless making it slightly easier to gain their control , with a lot of very prudent managership within the groups aiding them to become stable and in Exeter's case new on site development and Wimbledon [ with council help i understand?] a new stadium in the not too distant future , the "white night on horseback" [with large saddlebags ] is still a big requirement in BRFC's case

Exeter City has 3000 trust members and bumble along quite nicely - Obviously it helps if 'barking mad' but talking numbers i spend a minimum of £100 per away game if we say @ 500 travel that is 50k spent by fans every away game. That is 1 million outlay every season just on away games. I for one would drop couple away games and instead set up a standing order for at least £5 a week. If on average the other travelling fans followed suit that's 1.3 Million for starters.
With no disrespect to Exeter we have a massive fan base all round the country and more aboard. I fully believe its not unreasonable to suggest another 8500 potential members who if on average also commit to £5 a week (some may only go for £2 a whilst others maybe £10 plus) that would generate another 2.2 Million. That makes 3.5 million should be able to buy a tent or two maybe even a marquee! Also worth considering a lucky draw every week to add a bit of spice say 10k a week put aside with 5k split 2 or 3 big winners, and the other 5k split with 50 fans winning £100 each.
Right i losing it thats my last joint tonight! After all i don't want to miss Rovers winning goal.

set up a standing order for at least £5 a week... like the share scheme members did? worth considering a lucky draw every week... like the fifty fifty draw? The problem isn't the absence of money-taking efforts. The problem is that all that supporters' cash was gifted away to owners who spent more and still ran debts. The standing orders and lottery revenues should have meant supporters owning more of the club, or the Memorial Ground. I doubt the appetite to pay more any more remains, but I hope I'm wrong. I'm open to the idea of supporter takeover. That's what the Gas Trust chaps and chapesses were up to, but the BRSC share scam beat them to the cash.

I come out with some 'pie in the sky' boll##ks every now and again - i mean ' miss the Rovers winning goal' Bottom line is the team performances are starting to match the owners ambition We are rapidly becoming Club Zero!
If it proves to be the case of no 'White Knight' coming to our rescue, do we call it a day and go shopping with the wife on saturday or dig out that trusty old fishing rod. Or do we say boll##ks to that and fight ' Tooth and nail' to get our club back.
A half hearted mix of booing and whistling at the end of a game directed at whoever is manager at the time with whoever happens to be playing that day is not only undeserved but misdirected. Imagine the reaction if this 'state of affairs' was happening at Millwall would they 'mince about and shake their heads' Of course not , After all there are a Hell of a lot of us lets make some noise, a f##king lot of noise at the next home game right from the start and all through out the game what we got to lose ' death by a 'thousand cuts' has run its course

By the time the penny drops it will be too late and the day of reckoning cannot be more than a year or two away at the rate they are hemorrhaging cash. Have to wonder whether the Fantasist is lying low because he knows what's coming or whether he is losing interest.

I was there on Saturday as well.
It's a great little club and it frustrates me that off the pitch we could and should be in a much better position than they are. Their last set of accounts showed a £2m profit. Obviously that has mostly been achieved by player development and then selling them but they are under no illusion without a sugar daddy that is exactly what they have to do and they concentrate 100% on doing just that. Word was buzzing in the corporate area that Ollie Watkins from Newton Abbot is about to be sold by Brentford which could nett the club a sell on bonus of £8m.
If you liked the renovated St James Park then you would have been blown away by their training ground.

I've thought about it a lot since I made that post on Saturday evening and Exeter look like a club that facilities and outlook wise are punching well above their traditional weight. Could easily be promoted this season. The thing about traditional weight is that unless you use it wisely it can lead to a sinking.

Could easily be promoted this season. The thing about traditional weight is that unless you use it wisely it can lead to a sinking. The first half was shocking and you just knew that the second half couldn't be as bad. I think they are capable of being and surviving as a League 1 club but they need to keep doing what they do well and that is producing quality players and balancing the books. As their chairman pointed out at their last AGM it was only a couple of years ago when the PFA had to help pay the players. They did have a director willing to lend money but the trust rules does not permit that to happen. Maybe that is actually a good thing as it helps the board stay even more focussed. Their recent ground redevelopment was financed using the same idea as we planned to rebuild The Mem. A land deal for student accommodation behind the Big Bank paid for both the new Adam Stansfield Stand and the modest away end which is now slightly larger and is covered. The away supporters also get the end block of the Flybe stand which is where the Cambridge fans were on Saturday.

Ah I wondered where they were.
My daughter will be living a stone's throw from the ground next academic year so I'll take in a few more games next season.

You could always ask Masters why we don't own more of the club. He was there when the resolution was passed to dilute the Share Scheme capital, although he wouldn't admit how he voted. Brain was there as well, he voted in favour. Cheers David, you complete and utter plank!

UTG / STB [ Wow that’s fighting talk Got to admit the bars and pasties are much better and the pitch must be a dream to play on. The club shop is better and for many the match day experience still leaves a lot to be desired. The development squad appears to have peaked with Alfie and Rollin some of whom must wonder why loanees have been brought in as clearly those within the academy are not up to standard. The club has stagnated in many areas and in some respects I feel Wael has tried his best to make progress.
