well the fans on the Fishyforum are certainly excited about this appointment... [apart from the usual boring cynics like we have on here] Give them a few weeks. It won't take many post match interviews where it's obvious that he wants to make everything about him and his Christmas cracker jokes, they'll soon be bored of it. YOU wouldn't be by any chance................. the guy on the end of my original post HNY !!!

Their previous manager, now replaced by Ollie, was a young guy with an impressive coaching background but no actual managerial experience in British professional football. Hang on ...... that sounds familiar, where have I read something like that recently?

Oh dear how the mighty have fallen. The report says he's selling up and moving to that part of the world, where I'm sure there are some nice parts to live. Nothing against Grimsby, I found their support v us at Wembley more vociferous, and they are a decent club with history and tradition. But, really? Spinning the same yarn over there will lose you the gig quicker than acquiring it by buying a few shares, because we all know that investment into a football club is a basket case waiting to happen. Choosing (or more accurately, defacto having) to buy shares smats of desperation. I wish him well, but the he's yesterday's manager and most probably this year's fish and chip wrapper at some point.. To be fair Grimsby is probably the best plaice to go for that...

HNY right back at you, to your family and friends also, and good health to you all as well.

Shows what people in the game think of him. Managers coming and going all over the place, all he can get is a team threatened with dropping out of the League, and to get that gig he has to buy shares in the club. Still hope it works out for him, just hope he doesn't start his nonsense about his blood being whatever colour their shirts are this season. I think he was arrogant in telling us that we had to call him and I sense some desperation in him taking this gig. He’s become more of a comical pundit in my opinion but I wish him good luck as I’ve followed Grimsbury 😂 ever since our play off final and thought their supporters were fantastic

Not a fan of his personality but in terms of his managerial ability Garner makes him look like Guardiola. Perhaps we missed a trick by not bringing him back to see out the job started by Coughlan.

I would have appointed him to the end of the season.
Trouble is he was never going to apply, he wanted to be approached and he wouldn’t have accepted a short contract.

That is the fourth team I have to keep a check on now in L2; along with N'ton, M'field and Warsaw Happy new year folks... Or just follow Rovers and not give a toss for past players or managers? I have mixed sympathies with both positions there. IH was my first Rovers Manager. He may still care about BRFC, in which case I care about his career. Chris Lines still celebrates BRFC wins on social media, so I like him, and I do care a bit about his career too. DC I don't know about, but he obviously earned my respect here. I don't think the Mansfield Town manager cares about us in the slightest though, and the feeling is mutual.

Would not have minded Holloway till the end of the season. I think his style is more Coughlan than BG so the players might have continued to respond in the same way, but it was never going to happen, as that just might have brought about a push for promotion, and that would not be in line with our evolution which has the pace of an asthmatic ant carrying heavy luggage.

The good old "Pantomime monkey" eh? Are you still sulking? Holloway is rightly a Rovers God. Just because he jumps around like a baboon doesn't make him the right man for the manager's job.

Not sulking, just reminding you of the stupidity of your earlier comments, demeaning ones to a favourite Rovers son, with 3 promotions on his CV.
But you and others carry on spouting...but allow others a right of reply.

If Ian Holloway is reading this (arf arf), then please accept my apologies for any offence.

To be honest I think Ollie would have done better with the squad that Garner has assembled than the one Coughlan had. If you look at his career he's been most effective when he's had a group of young players to galvanise and buy into his style both of football and man-management. Where he's struggled is in trying to motivate more experienced and jaded players. It makes sense - you can see how his enthusiasm could inspire belief in younger players but older players might find his act a bit tiresome and false. He even admitted in his autobiography that he struggles to understand players who are not as enthusiastic about the game as him. It's arguably one of the reasons why his record in relegation battles is generally poor and therefore why he'd have been the wrong man to bring in last season.
I'd have been alright with him being appointed this year but it's clear the club had a vision for what it wanted to do and it didn't involve fighting for that top 6 place.

TBH I would have offered IH a 1.1/2 year deal, his madcap way does sometimes work at a lower level, he would of had the crowd for at least to the seasons end and hey just as in 2007 we might just have squeezed into a play-off place on the last day with virtually the last kick of the season.
Having said all that might this still happen with the present incumbent..?

I used to go to Eastville with his late Dad Terry and his grandad's lodger Fred.

He didn't care much about us when we played QPR away in cup in last few years....he went public and wanted his beloved home team to win. He chose his way. I chose mine He can go duck himself..
