After a long unbeaten run this was always on the cards with a new Manager taking over a team that have been doing very well and playing against a team who to be honest although we may have been pumping above our weight generally we should have been well capable of beating lowly AFC Wimbledon. First half I thought we played quite well at times and were well worth at least the 1 goal lead and probably two or three as the Dons did not really look much of a team but second half we were poor and couldn't really deny that at the end Wimbledon deserved a point but probably not all three but we gave them their goals on a plate.
Jaakkola 7 Couple of very good top quality saves as he has become accustomed to. Maybe should have done better with the first goal but perhaps I am being a bit harsh.
Menayase 5.5 caught out too many times today and to be honest the three centre halves were really dodgy on the flanks today not really helped by the wing backs but I suppose if we want to play more on the front foot then we are going to be susceptible to getting caught out in wide positions.
Craig 6 Not his usual game , caught for pace a couple of times.
Kilgour 6 generally sound but like his fellow defenders was a bit out of sorts at times.
Rodman 5 Caught out too many times and weak on both goals. Better first half than second.
Upson 7 Kept the ball moving well and rarely gave it away but needs players alongside him with a bit more pace and creativity. Great ball through in the second half that should have set up a goal.
Ogogo 4 Very poor but won the penalty
Sercombe 7 MOM Shame about the expertly taken goal that was disallowed probably correctly and had a great first half but like the majority of the team much less influence in the second half
Leahy 6.5 An OK game
Nichols 6 Some great control and running with the ball but really should have come away with two goals and that is his problem and ours- missed chances at important times.
Clarke-Harris 6.5 Looks overall way short of his best but his presence is important and IMO was replaced too early
Subs: Adeboyejo 4 Should have definitely scored and won the game for us. Instead he passed and the chance was gone as were eventually all three points. Don't know if we can send him back in January but if we could I would be inclined to and try to get Eoin Doyle from Bradford City as surely we would be a in a better position than Swindon to get him.
Smith 4 Did he go on?
Bennett 4 Same as Smith but was really put on too late.
Crowd 6 Over 9000 but silent for too long
Ref 5 Average
Wimbledon 6.5 better than their position suggested but we should have been out of sight by half time if we had taken chances that did come our way. Even second half we should have scored a couple but really gifted them the three points.
This report is short because I am not going to criticise the Manager after one game with little time to prepare as really it was I would think the same team Maher would have put out and probably had GC been in charge it would have been a draw. My only worry is the lack of emotion from the New Manager which does really worry me. We can't really criticise him until we see what team we have in place after the transfer deadline closes and even then he is going to be limited by the owners. Anyway now two games coming up where I would be satisfied with three points out of the six and don't honestly expect to pick up anything at Fleetwood. Perhaps me thinking this is a good omen!! UTG

Just about sums it up although Nichols was no better than 5. I was hoping he'd get a pair of athletic socks for Christmas to give him a bit of pace, but no, he did his usual trick of hanging on to the ball too long when played into space when he had options to pass and had it taken off him like sweets from a kid. I thought we did alright first half and looked a far better side than Wimbledon, who were ponderous and slow. We lacked the fighting spirit and sharp edge of the last few weeks, which was only to be expected with a rookie manager in the dugout. Our defence was jittery and stood ball watching for the two awful goals instead of getting stuck in like they did under GC. Wimbledon pushed up a bit second half and we fell back too far and gave them momentum.

He's had a whole ONE training session with the squad. He probably can't even remember half their names yet. Some people would only be happy with Ollie jumping up and down like a babboon, regardless of the football, because he has "passion".

Doyle has played for two teams this season therefore not really a good purchase for now. Thought best thing JCH did yesterday was take himself out the shop window.

It's a fair point, stamping around and stripping down to your shirt in freezing rain like that thug at Everton is purely for the galleries, but it would have been nice to have seen our manager trying to get some kind of message on to the pitch yesterday when we lost control of the game. Early days of course, but not a great start for the new Gaffer. As the game went on we surrendered control all over the pitch and he allowed it to happen. 3/10.

JCH maybe had something special with GC ? We have nearly all expected him to score whenever he plays but we just aren’t giving our forwards the chances. If we did somehow keep him and it’s been put out there that Middlesbrough have tabled a seven figure sum, we would need to get a player or players that can feed him. I don’t think he did any harm to his prospects yesterday. Reading the match report, most have said how he continually positioned himself & just never got the ball. I think he will be off but whether we make any of the fee available to the manager is a different matter

Why would we sell the player that our only hope of promotion hinges on, especially to a club in the division that we are trying to get promoted into? Wael is ambitious, he has told us this any number of times. Pointless hangers on in cheap suits will be shed, the squad will be added to, surely? This is the best chance in a generation of 2nd tier football, to let it slip between your fingers would be an epic act of self harm.

We have had lots of things already let slip. The momentum of back to back promotions then not investing. If not tongue in cheek then you have faith in WAQ, I do not. There is a fair list one could make of his fantasies not bearing any fruit

He, his Father and Hani can hide what actually happened with UWE away from us, they can waffle on about beautiful pieces of land etc, but what they can't do is change the League table. Had we been a bit better prepared yesterday we would now be 2nd in the table and in an automatic promotion spot. This is it for Wael, nowhere to hide, no excuses possible, not interested in SCMP, that's so easy to get around, a 10 year old could manage it. The entire world is about to see if he's a serious football club owner, or a fantasist.

I don’t know about you but my mind was made up on that as soon as we had no movement after the daggers promotion. I have zero trust or belief in him. Looking at his twitter feed , you would wonder if he is a football first man.

I shudder with embarrassment thinking about him chasing Mezut Ozil and Will Smith around, bending their ears, demanding to be heard, with his self-important stories. And this is the thing, he can now crank it up a notch and mix with some serious people in the 2nd tier, or he'll have to run a bit faster down airport corridors to catch up with Mezut and explain why we were on the brink of promotion but he didn't invest to give the club a chance. What ya gonna do Wael?

Anyway, you know what I'm like, I won't leave it there. If he told them what to do in the second half, that just made it worse, Whatshisname out etc etc etc...

Steve was bang on when he described this result as predictable.
My younger son called around yesterday and had apparently been following the game on twatty or something and knew we'd been up to second place at half time and then collapsed. "What's up with Rovers Dad ?" he said. Well son, I said, this was entirely predictable. I can remember a time when we played Wolves at home at Christmas (it was 1972) and there was so much excitement that the normally half empty coach from our village was jam packed full with fans who hadn't been to Eastville for years. Great merriment was caused among my mates when my Dad got on and some old geezer called out "why, there's young Ken ...". He probably hadn't seen Grandad since the 1950's so to him he was still a young man. We lost 5 - 1 and sauntering back to the coach I remember saying how disappointing it was that we couldn't have put on a better performance in front of a big crowd and Grandad said to me " The thing with Rovers is you can always rely on them being unreliable".
I was expecting a chuckle, or at least some kindly comment about the joy of following our team, but as I glanced across he looked up from the phone and murmured in his mid-Atlantic accent "whatyousaydad"

I think it would be a mistake to go chasing promotion with money we do not have. It would not in any way ensure promotion and would simply increase the debt. I totally agree with wael abiding by the SCMP rules now that we know he is not as wealthy as originally thought. Its still possible that we can get players out and bring others in to strengthen the squad. Regarding the loan market it will be interesting to see if the new manager can bring a couple of good players in what with his premier league coaching background.

GC swayed a lot when interviewed. I hope BG remains still as I used to get sea sick watching GC interviews
