As a political weapon ? Hmm, interesting choice of words there BG. I can only say that anyone who genuinely is looking to help anyone who finds themselves in such a situation is a good thing. As for those who use food banks when not needing it then words fail me. My personal experience was one of acute embarrassment but, luckily, the people running the place were absolutely lovely. I still have 3 vouchers that I could use if I was like that but I am sending them back. I didn’t know you could use a foodbank without this as I had to be means tested, to get the vouchers. If true then I am truly appalled by it and hope the universe balances things up, so they get full payment for their disgusting behaviour. For the record, it actually got me out and talking to people again as I became a true hermit, wearing several layers of clothing instead of using the heating. I am stunned to hear of this. I thought the vouchers were meant to stop this ? But KP, the OP on this thread blamed the need for food banks on this government, and you agreed. I don't dispute that there are victims of circumstance who are genuinely in need, but that happens in all countries, under all governments, left and right, and I agree, we all have a moral duty to help the genuinely needy if we can, but it's not a black and white question is it? Tempted to expand on this but 3 days before an election it would probably turn into exactly the sort of thread that it seems some people don't want on this forum. I'll end by saying that I'm sorry that you found yourself in that position but am glad that you seem to be coming out the other side of it Please, believe me when I say I am nowhere near out of it yet. There is an ongoing battle for back payments and the red tape that they MAKE you go through makes me understand why so many have chosen suicide. It’s evil, it’s wrong and reprehensible and, yes, it is this lots fault as it was they that changed the system and why you see limbless people being found fit for work. I shall leave it there as I genuinely get jittery thinking about it let alone going over it. I will just add that if not for St.Monicas charity, I know I would not have got through.

Somebody with no limbs found fit for work? If you mean somebody missing 1 or 2 limbs, then that's quite possible. I've employed amputees, no issues, in fact, the last one, a guy called Kevin, missing 1 arm, was more than grateful for being given an opportunity, he said that he was desperate to work but employers wouldn't give him a chance. I have another friend, he has lost the use of both legs, he would be more than a little insulted by the suggestion that you seem to be making, namely that he's 'not fit for work', he is doing well in his career, drives, married with a young family. Having said that, as I touched on earlier, every situation is different.
