Good afternoon all. Next March, I'm doing Swimathon 2020 and will be swimming 5KM to raise money for Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK. I first did this event 25 years ago when I was fit, had black hair and was not quite as old as Methuselah. Now I'm less than fit, have grey hair, am older than the Himalayas and care about too much. Those of you who know me know that in mid September, completely out of the blue, my Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died 12 days later. To say this was a shock would be an understatement. Mum was 79 and was as far as we were concerned, fireproof and indestructible. She went downhill rapidly and has such gentle, caring, kind professional care in her final few days, which was befitting of such a wonderful woman. Mum never complained, being a Glaswegian, she just got on with it. We think she knew she was ill, but didn't want to worry anyone. Please if any of you have any unusual symptoms, get them investigated!! I would like to raise money to help organisations that can aid in the fight against such pernicious diseases and if any of you good people would.like and are able to give anything in support, I would be eternally grateful. Thank you for reading. The link if you want it ,is here: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/grant-buckley1964

Good luck. I understand your doing it because when it happens quickly like that it shakes those that are left. Really worthwhile cause, hope it goes well. UTG!

Best wishes for your attempt.... Sorry to hear about your loss
We all think our parents are going to be there forever
Sadly I lost both mine in my early 30's... Think about them every week

I echo the sentiments of others and offer my sincere and deepest sympathy on your loss. On a personal note, you will come to view this as a death that was quick in nature and that it didn’t put you through the hell of dealing with DWP and social services whilst seeing the people you love, deteriorate but very slowly. My father had the best of all deaths in that he fell asleep, in his favourite chair and passed in his sleep. Mum took 5 years. If I can be of any help by giving lifts or helping with probate then I have become a reluctant expert. Cry when tne tears come and don’t do what I did In internalising your grief. Good luck and God bless you at this awful time

A small donation done for a fantastic cause. Thank you mate!! Completely humbled by the generosity of people that I have never (knowingly) met. This thread is not about me, it's about raising money for fine organisations that are helping in the fight against that b'stard C word. So grateful to everyone who has donated. There are some who have done so anonymously. You are wonderful too, thank you!

I would like to thank Steve (Irenestoyboy) for speaking with Mr Gorringe on my behalf. A quick email to him and he (Mr G) arranged for Clare McDonagh to donate two tickets of choice in standing areas, or South/South West stands for a game next season.
These are on auction until next Friday and I already have a very generous £30 bid.
Thank you Steve. Top.man.
