That is the first time I genuinely nodded off during a game. We were very poor and not controlling the ball or game. When we took off Nichols it got worse and we were seriously under the cosh v 10 men. Very poor crowd and this will not be encouraging people to come. I really don’t know what else to say.

At least you all agree for once. Not quite what I had in mind when I wished it though

Utter chaos at the back with 2 appalling goals in 2 minutes. Nichols will live off of 3 goals for the rest of the season he remains a total fraud though and spent the game hiding again. Leahy started well but went downhill from the fourth minute. My concern surrounds JCH and the injury he still seems to be carrying from last season, I didn’t expect him to come out for the second half today. If we lose him we are bolloxed. Jordi had a good game in goal without the panic we see from Jaakola. All in all a brilliant start that lasted until accy scored and total shambles from then on in spite of JCH’s brilliance. On another point it is indicative of the tripe being served up when the spectators start sniping at each other in fact one tanked up twerp swung a punch at someone he disagreed with on the west terrace. One complaint about the pitch, it’s too good for us and suits the visiting teams. Dig it up and lay a quagmire.

Wow. Was it that bad? I lent my season ticket to a friend/neighbour who goes to more away than home games. He messaged to say he thoroughly enjoyed it and thought Accrington were tough and spirited.

No, he was right. You might notice it's a feature of the forums - rarely give the opposition any credit. To me, they didn't just want to win - they EXPECTED to.

Thoroughly entertaining game, had everything.

My take on this game, if I supported Accrington.
We started poorly didn't get the ball for the first 18 mins and went a goal down but they didn't really capitalise.
We got back in the game against the run of play, the 2nd goal was from a mistake but 2-1 flattered us but we started cutting through their midfield. Exposing the back 3.
Thought we were on top when they equalised and their 2nd was a bit soft. 2-2 HT about right. Their no4 was everywhere really pressing hard in midfield.
Our defenders were bullied by no9 and they stretched us with their width.
Our stupid captain got sent off, their no10 was tricky all afternoon and looked confident, glad when he was subbed.
We were brilliant at 10 men but went behind to an overhead kick by their striker. We deserved our pen, kept the ball well, bit lucky to hang on as they had a few chances in injury time.
We scored 3 away from home and didn't win, our defence is a bit suss but we can still create and showed great spirit.
***********
Back to Gas.
Nichols was unhappy at being subbed, I thought he played well and was sniffing a goal, Smith didn't have any effect, we missed Upson. Ogogo was excellent but he could not afford to go forward where Upson would normally cover.
I thought Craig could have blocked better for the first, the keeper didn't get down for it, the 2nd was a joke but these things happen, they're allowed an off day and were rightly punished. The draw was down to the mistakes by defenders and we scored 3 at home again.
Accrington were allowed to have a go, they were not going to roll over, same as Tranmere, we seem to struggle when they go down to 10, but nearly won.
The solution for me is to try to keep the ball better, wear them out, we were 3-2 up and should have been able to hang on.
Bennett was 0 out of 10. The 30 minutes he was on bypassed him and he was going through the motions. Cancel his contract, Hargreaves should have had a chance there, we should have subbed the sub, it was like we had 10. He nearly scored at the end but he was disgraceful. He was hiding from any responsibility.

You are a being more than a bit generous. Badly at fault for the first goal. Leahy is also a liability defensively - this has been clear since the first games of the season. The solution? Change the formation and go with 4-4-1-1 Kelly left-back and Leahy left midfield. Rodman on the right. Upson/Ogogo and Clarke in the middle. Nichols in behind JCH. When everyone is fit. Little and Leahy as MR and ML with THD and Hare as DL and DR.

This formation is not broken, we can't keep chopping and changing when we don't win give it time, we've suddenly started creating more chances, the 5 in midfield works

5 in midfield is too defensive for home games, in my view.
The main issue here is Leahy. We were warned by Walsall fans about his defensive weaknesses. He looks to be much stronger going forward and was in fact widely renowned, and even admired, for this when at Walsall.
Little's pace and power going forward will give us a real outlet down the right and THD and Hare will provide further width from LB and RB.
On the occasions when Tom is having one of his 'off days', swap him for Rodman and play the latter in an AM role? JCH is definitely strong enough to lead the line by himself.

3 5 2 seems to struggle when the opposition play the ball to the full backs If our wide player pushes on then they are just passed out of the game which opens up the midfield.

Ollie can't hold his position and it looks like, when the opposition have the ball, our wide midfielders have no clue what they are supposed to be doing. I've literally never seen a midfield system so disorganised, it's a complete mess.

We missed Upson, probably a better explanation

Just got back!
Wow Accy done it again.... frustrated us, played a 'tranmere' by appearing to have one more on the pitch instead of one less, and I thought were good for their draw and probably shaded it if anything. Didn't like some of their gamesmanship tactics, that was a shame, but fair play deserved their draw.
What positives?.....hmmmm keeps made a great diving save, although doesn't come off his line enough for corners etc. JCH scored an overhead kick with his weaker foot!(when did that last happen in a Gas shirt?!)and I thought Alfie matured even more, albeit a few misplaced passes and the first goal he gave the ball away.
Negatively, we looked shy, naïve, lethargic, slow, non marking, non tackling, non blocking, non cross stopping because we weren't tight enough....our mid and defence conspired to give away all three goals which individually, at one point or more, were definitely preventable if the right decision was taken at the right time.
Ollie was poor. Craig was poor. Rodman goal apart, was poor. Nichols was poor. Hare was poor. Bennett was poor.
A shout to their number 7. Excellent m o m and played the winger cut in and shoot role as he was left footed on right side. Turned our defence inside and out, scored the first and set up the penalty for third. Exactly sort of player we need, pacey creative and goalscorer...
Too many poor performances today, and another more efficient team would have eviscerated us.
Having said that, three goals and not losing when you're playing poor? Some may say that's acceptable.
Depends which way your bread's buttered.
I think we needed to win today because next league match is an uphill battle to even get a point.
A little more please, GC ...

Thoroughly entertaining game, had everything. We shall have to agree to disagree my friend. We looked suspect each time they pushed through the middle and I think we were poorer for subbing Nichols. They moved forward and back together where we did not. I agree on entertaining but we really should have been able to complete passes and especially so when they lost their captain. I’m not normally one to talk of formations but I think we should have changed to 4-4-2 after the sending off. Still, we didn’t lose and I guess we should be happy with that as they really outplayed us, with 10 men. My nephew went yesterday, he used to be a regular. His succinct view was the we looked good in the first 15 minutes but poor after that. The goal by JCH was out of this world, once I saw highlights as I had genuinely nodded off. I only had 2 pints 😂.
