T20 is a competition that form can go out of the window isn’t it? Kent would have been upset to lose v Gloucestershire but that’s what happens. Kent beat Somerset fairly easily but that means nothing when the next match comes. Surrey would have expected to win after posting 205 against us but we just came out and blasted them off by the 18th over. We set Essex 225 at Chelmsford and I thought Essex would have put up a fight but scoreboard pressure after just 3/4 overs makes players pan8c a bit I think and they scraped to 111. T20 is a strange game and this year esp the southern group is fairly open. The two Som v Gloucestershire games look as if they will be vital at the end. I don’t think we will qualify this year looking at the table but with the batsmen we have we could go and win 4 on the trot and sneak in. Our batsmen, Babar Azam, Banton, and even Abel and Hildreth and Byrom are all near the top end of the run charts so it always gives us a chance. Tonight’s matches will make it a bit clearer but at the moment I think only Glamorgan and Surrey look to be out of it which is surprising considering Surrey’s batting line up. Not often correct but after 3 wins in four days we’ve given ourselves a chance and with Gloucestershire losing to Middlesex our two local derbies will be vital. Great context for both matches I think. Gloucestershires bowlers against our batsmen. Winner takes it all!

On a very rare midweek trip to Bristol tomorrow and was genuinely torn as to whether to watch Rovers v Cheltenham or go to Glos v Hampshire. I have chosen to watch Rovers - I think this makes me a mug to be honest.

If the East Stand had been open you’d see the floodlights from the cricket but when I booked my ticket the East Stand wasn’t an option so I presumed it was closed.

Shire for me, can't really get enthused by a League Cup game against Cheltenham after Saturday.

Good win for 'shire against Hants, can't see their being much cricket against Somerset tonight. Will take the point to be honest.
Josh Shaw has signed a 3 year deal from Yorkshire which, I'm pleased with. Also rumours that Tye might play against Derbyshire. Glos really seem to be giving it a go this season, great to see.

Good morning here by Glos up in Derby, it’ll be interesting to see what we can get them out for and then if we can get a lead. Bowling really well as a unit though.

Good morning here by Glos up in Derby, it’ll be interesting to see what we can get them out for and then if we can get a lead. Bowling really well as a unit though. Yes - I was following it on my phone from Colwyn Bay where I was watching Lancs cough up 2 annoyingly needless bonus points to Glos promotion rival Glamorgan. They went from 145-8 to 257 all out. Usual guff. Having bowled very well to get themselves into that position on a relatively slow deck by bowlingng very full and at the stumps they moment number 10 came in they decided to spread the field to Samit Patel and pepper him with bouncers which he delightedly hooked in the general direction of the car park. They then got Carey, an effective slogger, going by again bowling bouncers at him on a dead slow wicket. Absolutely atrocious stuff - I swear there is a manual on how to panic when tailenders come in that all Championship Captains are forced to follow! Infuriating as a Glos fan. Not been to Colwyn Bay before - a great ground to watch cricket. They have a sheer bank at one end you can sit on so you're right on top of the action and it avoids the issue you sometimes get at outgrounds where people in are 7/8 deep at ground level trying to see over each other to the field. Lovely location too. I will go back.
Hopefully our batting gets the job done at Derby though after a decent day in the field (though I noticed a similar late order wag their too).

Excellent day for Glos, centuries for Dent and Higgy, unfortunately missed out on the last batting bonus point but a lead nearing 200. Hopefully we can wrap it up in two days with a great bowling performance tomorrow. A real statement today.

Hats off to Jack for calling it back in April - I did not see this run coming at all.

Seems the pitch has flattened out in Derby, will be surprised if we get a result now. A real shame.

Still very close in Division 2 and it looks like most teams can beat each other. At the moment it looks like only Worcestershire and Leicestershire are out of it. For the first time for a few years it looks like losing their top players has finally caught up with Worcestershire. Its Gloucestershire s promotion to lose but I bet they don’t get many such comfortable declarations as they go into the final month. But as they have the points and second place a draw might be ok sometimes. Just looking forward to Somerset v Essex in the last match of the season at Taunton. How we got away with beating Warwickshire by five wickets I don’t know. At one stage I thought we might have to follow on. Just goes to show when you bat so deep it always gives you a chance and in the end it was a comfortable win. Cricket is sometimes a fascinating game. Over a four day match matches swing for you and against you, it’s just a shame that people don’t have the time to do it.

They've had a terrible season but they've only lost one player. Tom Kohler-kadmore left a couple of years ago and was not integral to our championship team. Joe Clarke left this winter but on paper Weasels and Fergusson are good replacements. I think the departure of the coach, Steve Rhodes is the one Worcester have struggled to overcome. I also think describing a declaration that left Gloucester chasing 270 off 50 overs as generous is a bit harsh. England set Australia a smaller target at lords and Australia got no where near it.

I’ll bow to your superior knowledge about Worcestershire jack but if one of the smaller counties like Somerset, Sussex or Worcestershire keep losing players there will come a time when it has a real effect. It takes time for young players to come through and constantly losing your best youngsters will mean that replacing them will become harder. It worked that way at Somerset in the early 2000s. Over a period of time has a cumulative effect in the end and it’s one that’s not always clear.
