0-0 Full Time at Accrington. A point gained for sure and stops our poor record of seven straight defeats against Stanley. Well done the players and GC. Putting a decent record together now. Bring on Wycombe next Saturday.

Draw our away games and win our home games and we’ll be fine, I would have taken that before. Onto Wycombe.

The big issue when mcburnie was at the club was getting promoted which is what happened. Leadbitter kept roberts out of the team. Both swansea players are older and stronger now so in no way can a comparison be made with the spell they had at rovers.

A shame Premier League Loanee Alex Jakubiak couldn’t grab a winner!

Some dude who went today texting 20 pence with:
“We struggled with GC looking tactically inept against the experienced Coleman & today could cost us in the long run”
Not too dramatic or anything! For me, a decent point on the road, another clean sheet & extending the unbeaten run. Big home game next weekend to come.

Accrington play a pressing game in flocks to win the ball and set off on speedy counter attacks. They're full of energy and seem to be able to run forever. A difficult side to play against, but our defence was too wily for them. We gave as good as we got going forward but were more cultured in our approach and never really threatened in the final third. Considering the driving wind and rain it wasn't a bad match to watch and we could have snatched it with the last kick of the game from a perfect Sercombe free kick from just outside the box to the left that was heading for the far corner when their goalie just got a hand to it to put it behind. We look much more solid now and three points against Wycombe at home should see us start to rise up the league. The ref wasn't bad for a rookie but one of the women in earshot to the commentary called him a plonker at one point. I haven't heard that for years :-)

Rovers XI: Jack Bonham (GK), James Clarke, Tom Lockyer (c), Tony Craig, Michael Kelly, Ollie Clarke, Ed Upson, Liam Sercombe, Tareiq Holmes-Dennis, Alex Rodman, Alex Jakubiak. Subs: Adam Smith (GK), Joe Partington, Tom Broadbent, Sam Matthews, Liam Sercombe, Gavin Reilly, Tom Nichols. Interesting that GC picked one Liam Sercombe to start, but kept the other on the bench. I suppose they're too similar to fit into the tactics employed today. I would like to see them both play sometime, in a three, playing either side of a possession-keeping defensive midfielder.

Sideline but excellent news from today: Rad Bris have taken Keith Brookman on full time to do the co-commentaries from now on. So no more Steve Hamer on matchdays

Hamer “news of my death has been greatly exaggerated ” Feck Uncalled for my friend. We all have to come to terms with our own mortality and fears of that but I’d never want someone dead, well..... not in a civilian capacity. Playing devil’s advocate, he is just his masters voice and he did actually show his own frustrations, when he did the joint interview, with DC on 20man Oh give over I don’t want him dead, I was only joking around with it in same way Hamer was. My reading of it was KB has been signed for rest of season, that could only be a good thing, so we will hear less of Hamer on commentary. You mention his particular role, and I agree it’s an unenviable one, this squishy thing between manager, player, fans ambition and the owners planning and spending. He always comes across as a football enthusiast, though one from the other side of the “no riff raff in this lounge” barrier. Today he showed genuine concern for consequences of rovers fans on open terrace getting proper soaked and nithered. I understand Swansea fans don’t think much of Hamer. My suspicion is when he finally leaves us many gasheads wont have fond memories either. That may be, as you say, because of the unenviable task he has taken on. On a more serious note. Back to back 0.0s.Lack of creation and scoring has been the issue all season. Even in the middle of this little unbeaten run the issue is flashing away in neon lights. We clearly have a problem, I wonder, 12 month from now, mid table league two, we don’t look back on this moment regretting not aggressively wheelin and dealing to do something about it moment the window opened. Listening to The commentary of this match, whilst biting my nails, I was wondering why rodman didnt play today, and suddenly his name cropped up on commentary. Rodman, Payne, Riley, Nichols, Bennet, Matthews, jakubiac. Are they going to open up opponents and get the goals we need to stay up? Based on what we’ve seen up to January, I think not. Stick or twist? Hindsight may say “should have twisted”. Either end of last season Ellis wasn’t too hot, but he had a great little run of form in the winter, ultimately that kept us out the relegation fight. The epitaph of this this season may be we were down from the moment we sold Harrison.

A shame Premier League Loanee Alex Jakubiak couldn’t grab a winner! In Fact he has only scored in one league game Oxford away he reserves his best for our Checkatrade run hopefully score to make us reach Wembley.
Chance next week for him to play against his former Club Wycombe who he played for on loan in 2016/17.

Thing's like that are why I hate football phone ins (and why social media drives me up the wall at times) So many people want their opinion to be heard and to stand out they end up saying ridiculous things that they think sound clever and media outlets encourage it. Journalist do not want people phoning or texting in opinions along the lines of ' Meh, it was okay really'. The fact is that the nature of football or any other sport is that there generally is a winner or loser, you cannot win every header , you cannot score with every shot, the referee cannot get every decision correct every time. Unfortunately society no longer seems to accept this, we need to blame a 'tactically inept' manager, an 'out of his depth' referee or a 'lazy' player. Jerry Dammers was right

Totally agree with you Rex. Nothing makes my blood boil more than the hackneyed phrase 'tactically inept', regardless of who the manager is. If GC has managed to harvest 11 out of the past fifteen points available to an underachieving team can he be labelled 'tactically inept'? I don't think so.

When I'm President I shall be banning the phrase 'tactically inept' and anybody caught using it shall be deemed 'verbally inept' and sentenced to 2 years hard labour building a wall along the Feeder Road. They will be paying for the bricks themselves , and have to live on the wrong side of the wall after.

Rex, if you go to 'verbally inept', you'll have enough practitioners to rebuild the Great Wall of China.
