“get some width and play 2 up top.”
Firstly, I think we did play 2 up top. The number 9, leading the line, number 10, support striker. I liked the formation against Pompey. I pretty much liked the player picks, though perhaps sercs central for either Ollie or Uppy, and rodders on right would have been my call with Mathews injured. Secondly, just how much smaller is the playing area this season? I remember trolls being appointed and first decision was widen the pitch to help the wingplay. For those who like a stat most goals come from crosses. We do need to play with 2 up but even if we do the service has to be the right service. In the first half throwing hoof balls up to Tom N and even Payne was useless, we could still be playing and it would still be scoreless with that type of service. He will never score with this service. But when we started to play through the midfield Bennett was excellent as were Tom N and Liam S and we were so much better. I think DC got to them at half time and gave them a real b********* because when we played through midfield Pompey were mediocre, couldn’t handle Bennett and we were so much better. But we need to do that for 90 minutes not just in periods. UTG!

In that time we have played Wigan Blackburn Shrewsbury and Portsmouth. So not totally bad. Our next 3 home games are against Southend Plymouth and Cov. Got to be aiming for 7 or 9 pts Just one win at the Mem in the league in our last nine matches -that is a poor record.
Good job we have an impressive away record two wins in our last nine !

Secondly, just how much smaller is the playing area this season? I can only speak from my vantage point on the West side, but the touchline is a good couple of yards further away now. Before, the linesman had to take care not to trample the ball-boys. Now, there's enough room him to drive a (super)bus along there. If anyone can report a similar reduction on the East side, then the pitch width would be about four yards narrower! By the way, the goalposts also looked a little further away from the Thatcher's terrace; is the pitch shorter, as well?
