So the big news is that Bristol will not get a new arena. The Filton hangar is up for grabs.
Join the dots...Ed Ware and YSL chief exec are in Merchant Venturers together. YSL are looking to build an arena; EW can re-develop the Mem for housing.
I maybe wrong, but this lack of development by Marvin has awakened my interest.

Despite the lack of hard evidence required to join the dots, I agree that there are a few factors in place which would make a Filton Arena, shared by Rovers/Bristol C Council & a promoter/investor, a very appealing idea.
The main one for all stakeholders being money, of course.
- Site at Temple Meads gets sold for mega-bucks to developers. - Memorial Stadium gets sold to developers, providing Rovers with a significant portion (if not all) of their 'buy-in' to the hypothetical proposal. - Investor/promoter can invest a third (or so) of the cash, for use of the arena in exchange for profits from events.
- Property developers get two, big new sites to build on; both in excellent locations for a mix of use. - Building the Arena at Filton will almost certainly unlock more, significant plots for developers.
The big stumbling block for this project would be similar to UWE: who gets to use the Arena, when do they get to use it and who collects the profit from it?
A boiled-down idea would be: - Rovers get matchday use; maybe offices. - Promoter gets first dibs on non-matchday slots, with an agreement between them and the council to book events. Profits divided between investor and council (maybe) and then (very unlikely) Rovers.
This possibly leaves Rovers in exactly the same position as the UWE saga: how do we make off-field money?
And finally, with UWE dead in the water; *if* Rovers don't get involved with the Filton Arena, it means there is one less viable project for us to get a new stadium.
EDIT: Just to confirm a further 'coincidence', Bristol Post are reporting YTL first made contact with BCC about Filton in April 2017. Rovers withdrew from the UWE project in August 2017. Probably nothing but maybe a little curious.

You mean our new stadium is gonna be by Temple Meads? Thus thrust us into two professional stadia only a few miles apart?!?!?! 😉

But, I would think the Arena would be an indoor stadium using one hanger. The second hanger a conference centre. If Rovers involved then surely this would be in a separate stadium. Therefore own income streams. The Arena plans involve infrastructure such as parking and trains, these can be shared. The big question is if plans for football stadium as weĺl how long in planning? All that housing would it be a revisit of Bradley Stoke? So the big news is that Bristol will not get a new arena. The Filton hangar is up for grabs. YTL are a Malaysian Investment firm. YSL is a french luxury fashion brand. I imagine Vaughan was referring to the former.

I guess this abandonment of the Bristol Arena (at Temple Meads) was not unexpected. If that means that private investment are interested in building an arena complex at Filton, there might be potential for something that could involve Bristol Rovers / a new Stadium.

For the avoidance of doubt,
Edward Ware is a Merchant Venturer as is Colin Skellett, who is Chair of YTL, the land and property group behind the proposed Filton Arena.
Tenuous? I am only linking this with rumours that Merchant Venturers were involved in New Stadium.
My instinct is that there has to be outside investment as DS will not provide it.
As a Bristolian, I am saddened that after 15 years of effort, another flag-ship project bites the dust.

I sense this is no more than just wishful thinking as I can't see YTL would have any interest in building or financing a stadium when they already have a "jewel in the crown" with the Arena, and the chances of DS financing it themselves seems unlikley.

Interesting Rovers cannot get a new ground, Bristol cannot get a new Arena. I am surprised that Lansdowne isn't involved in the arena

city's women train at the gym that I train at (and a wonderful distraction they are too) apparently they will be moving to Failand with their Academy once they have enlarged the present facilities (I think within 2 years is the plan). I was wondering what will happen to their Stoke Gifford stadium once they move out ? does anyone know what is planned ? is it possible that Rovers could rent it for training from next year ?

You mean the pitches that we were supposed to train at back in 2005 which were only going to cost a groundsman and a bag of grass seed? The then Principal of SGS is still there in a higher role and might have a longer memory than some.
