Any clues as to names? I'm assuming Turley is one of them.
Hoping for another striker.

Contract been offered to a striker and the 3 month loan deal is for a very experienced winger and the loan could be extended although the parent club value him and will probably only want a shorter loan deal. Turley having the big meeting with all the medics tomorrow so hopefully we will know more about whats happening with him soon.

It's almost like... we're going to have a balanced squad.

So does that mean that it's definite that the right back isn't signing? My mind has blanked on the name, Higgins maybe?

Much better to sign your own players that are committed to BRFC, as opposed to players who may not be as motivated . . . and I've put that as kindly as I can.

Steady....... . . . haven't we heard all of this before? And just like before, we buy it time after time. Well I certainly have/will. Come on Rovers. Certainly a lot more balanced than last year. DC has kept his word and I am happy with his transfer business. Hungry players, goood attitudes, pace and some experience at Conference level. Taylor scored 7 in 7 for Chester, Jamie White and Sinclair were two of Salisburys best players (and before someone says it's only Salisbury, if you were a Southend fan would you be upset with Michael Smith signing from a relegated team?). Monkhouse an all time favourite at Hartlepool with plenty of FL experience. Leadbitter has plenty of pace and Hereford fans say he will make a great wingback. Turley be all accounts a very, very good defender that could easily play in the league. If the three talked about sign, then things are looking good. And keeping Mildenhall and the rest of the back 5 (apart from Smith) has been a really good base to work from.

The most important thing that we have been able to do this pre season is to (so far!) keep the back 5 more or less intact. Let's remember that we had the 12th best defence last season in league 2. That for me is better than any transfer we have conducted so far, as a solid base is absolutely essential to any future success. Now it's up to the other players to show that they can add to this. No opinion from me yet on these new players. That starts next week...

I am very pleased DC is still after a striker permanently and a winger, because I still felt we were lacking quality and options in those areas. I am very pleased with Brunt, Taylor and White and think all three will score goals, but relying solely on Ellis as a different option would have been pointless in my opinion. I am more than happy to give the lad another chance if DC thinks he deserves it but I don't for all the world see a footballer in him, so another striker will be a welcome addition.
With the winger, I think a loan signing is a good way to go with it. They could very well be a good player and 3 months seems the perfect length of deal at this stage. If all goes well I'm sure it can be extended early doors and if it isn't working out we can bid farewell to them in October with plenty of time to source a replacement.
Personally I will be very pleased if we get the green light from our medical team to sign Turley because his record at this level is superb. He's highly rated, of a good age and will add to an already solid looking defensive unit. Fingers crossed all is well with his arm and we get him signed on!
If we can get all 3 players in I will feel confident that we are well-equipped to tackle the new season. It will be the first time in forever that I will go into the opening day thinking 'yes, we're ready'.

Gonna take half a season at least for this team to Gel. Gives DC a ready made excuse.

Yeah, I've been saying for months that this would be the case. DC mentions that league clubs phone him and offer goalkeepers all the time (or words to that effect). I wonder if these league clubs keen for their young goalkeepers to get a game are so keen that they'd still paid the players wages.

Harry Redknapp recently said QPR are happy to pay lower league clubs to play their players

A loan keeper here isn't going to get a game though, barring injury - how beneficial is a spell sat on a Non League bench, in the scheme of things? Apart from the wisdom learnt from the terrace behind, of course...

Apart from the wisdom learnt from the terrace behind, of course... And Clarke has already said he wont have a keeper on the bench very often as there's only five subs in the Conference. He'll use the emergency loan system if Mildenhall is out for any reason.
