Great news Gas 4-0 up after 30 minutes! Fantastic Harrison 7 minute hat-trick! Amazing what can happen when you put out your best XI and play attacking football from the off in a 4-4-2 formation. I stand by every critical word I wrote about the Charlton game. I'm confused, does that make you a 'rose tinter' or a 'belter'? It makes me a Gashead... Happy right now that Darrell has decided to go with his best XI available in a solid formation. Hopefully we will use this cunning plan in the future.

Let's get this straight, a new owner comes in, pays off all of the old board, pays off Wonga, employs a professional team to go through the shoe box and sort out the paperwork for UWE, buys a new training ground, (buying the site itself is probably the cheapest part of that project) gives the manager the biggest fattest contract any Rovers' manager has ever had, gives the manager the support team that he asks for including a recruitment specialist, we had a playing squad of 35 (largest in our history it was reported). The manager has said that he has funds. He's said that he's looking at bringing in a loan player, did he say that he wasn't going to bring in any permanent signings? Geez, I like a good moan more than most, but even my glass is more than half full at the moment. Us fans always want more. The grass is always greener, blah, blah. To be fair and balanced we have waited a long time for a stadium, and expectations were raised nearly a year ago now?

First 30 minutes we did better then anyone expected. We controlled the ball without ever looking threatening and kept Charlton at bay. They made a mistake and Easter finished well. We were then totally overran as a leaky defence lacked any protection from a slow, uncompetitive midfield. We were left chasing shadows for 60 minutes and the result was utterly inevitable. We were lucky to only go down 1-4. Do I ever want to see Rovers put out a side to try and nick a 0-0? No I f******g don't. It's never worked in the 30 years I've been watching Rovers and never will do. If DC wants to try this on a regular basis - please let us know beforehand so that we don't waste time and money going to (literally) pointless games. No, I still don't agree with you saying that that is what DC did against Charlton I've already given reasons to show we didn't go out to defend, and could add: - We came close to going back ahead 2-1 just before half-time. Gaffers was almost through on goal, and shortly after that a centre from Browner flashed across the face of the 6 yard box, just out of reach of the forwards. - DC made a double substitution when we went 2-1 down. Whilst I can't argue with your comments on the 2nd half, none of it translates to proving that DC ".. put out a side to lose / nick a 0-0 draw at best." I suppose it's a refreshing change to hearing accusations that DC's mantra to go out to win every game is too cavalier.

With the mess that was inherited, and no funding, a year isn't that long, especially if we end up with something better.

Blimey.
I don't know why he chose the team he did at Charlton - there could be any number of valid reasons: shots across the bows, run outs, any number of bigger picture reasons. Maybe it was a bout of madness, as afflicts genius. Or just a mis-call. Let's not jump on someone for making a mistake. The person who never makes a mistake never achieves anything, and we had years of that. Better to produce the odd turkey rather than bore our way to nowhere, as per Wardy. The big picture is that it works, long-term. I too hold the management wholly responsible: good on him.
Further outrage: he hasn't been like a kid in a sweet shop clutching 50p the moment it opens - and shortly afterwards whining that he doesn't have 50p. Good.
Keep it in context: 12 months ago, if you'd said, give it 12 months and we'd make a bad selection away to Charlton that would drop us to 10th in div 3, we'd have been open-mouthed. 24 months ago, ditto with bells on. And before that during years of doing nothing in div 4....
Meanwhile, someone's opening a vein because he hasn't seen the signed conveyance of the land at Almondsbury: never mind the quantum leap that we have the concept of having an integrated and fixed training base after 30 years of making do, driven by people who have an agenda of signing the necessary conveyance.
Back to 12 months ago: all was being gambled on what was obviously a doomed legal stand, because there was no other alternative to striking millions off the asset register. This was costing a fortune, as was the loan on the money borrowed to fund it. Madness, except that it got us through another week in the hope that something would turn up. And people feel let down by the people who bailed us out of that? I think that's their problem, not ours.
These are good times after years of crap and bulls**t. All isn't instantly perfect, oh well. Focus on the 98% and spare us the misery.

Strikes me we have a very competent and measured board now, a great manager, a team which fights for each other and frankly some of the best times in this clubs history are in front us not behind us (for once!).

Have we had any 'jottings' in the last 8 months, or is he: a) rethinking (when you're ready); or b) hoping we go back to the Conference to vindicate himself? As the 'voice of the supporters', he's a bit mute.

Bamber, if you are going to turn the direction of the thread from a bash the manager/board and have a moan towards stating factual content then please don't forget that the club have also employed a full compliment of backroom medical and physio staff, in the space of less than 12 months Bristol Rovers off the pitch is unrecognisable, some don't want to recognise this though unfortunately, it still isn't good enough! In fairness to GD back in his day as chairman, besides acquiring the Mem in a cute deal when Bristol RFC hit hard times financially, the man actually promised nothing and backed that up by delivering precisely nothing to take the club forward. Then under NH's recent tenure we all know what style was adopted there and the predictable results that ensued, following a string of empty promises and watertight contracts, so as the club continued to run as an amateur set up there appeared to be very little challenge to the board from fans towards both past Chairman. Now we have a leader in place who from day one set out his plans clearly, to build the club from the bottom upwards and turn us into a professional football club, he has made it clear from day one that big sums of money on big signings will not happen, and the money will initially go into building the club structure and academy. Absolutely without a shadow of doubt IMO this club has progressed massively in under a year, yet the voices of discontent are getting louder online, I avoid FB fan comments because its clear that far too many so called supporters of the club either didn't listen to Waels plan when he arrived, didn't fully understand it, or don't have a logical way of thinking. For the first time in the clubs history we have an extremely successful businessman who gets it at Rovers and is taking the club to areas never achieved in the past, I think you have every reason to feel you have a glass more than half full and I think there are plenty of Gasheads who feel the same, to some it will never be good enough though unfortunately. If there are no funds being made available for permanent signings in January because money is being used elsewhere to secure the long term future of the club and bring about a new home then there will be no complaints from this little part of South Gloucestershire, because a mid table finish this season is achievable, and not a bad resting perch in the bigger picture of progressing the club that many seem to have forgotten achieved national status for goals scored, winning streaks and home records in recent times. You cant please everyone though! Just 2 points. The manager says that he has the backing of the owners to bring in new players. I was told that it was the bank that insisted on the clause with the rugby club that ended up Rovers owning what had been their half of the stadium for a peppercorn sum. So the acknowledgement that GD had actually achieved something tangible in the name of the club was not the case then, interesting, didn't realise that Bamber.

I wasn't there when the papers were signed, but have been told by more than one person that the clause was inserted by the bank. When I next see Geoff I'll ask him. Either way, it would be poor form not to recognise the legacy of the Dunford family in saving the club when we left Bristol and in bringing us home again.

I feel very pleased for Mark McChrystal Have seen a fair few matches this year but not as many as most gasheads but yesterday Macca was fantastic. I know he's not everyone's favourite and perhaps he wasn't as challenged as he might have been against the better teams but as ever he never let us down. I watched him especially and it was noticeable how he was pointing, issueing orders and making sure people were marking or picking players up. On a couple of occasions we had free kicks in the densive areas and instead of rushing he deliberately slowed things down and cut out any chance of a hurried pass that could go wrong. It was leadership. I've liked Hartley, he poses a different threat. The point is whoever plays we need someone to provide leadership in defence and Macca gives that, I haven't always seen that this season. UTG!
