Hi all,
With the forum changes and everything I have fallen behind with what's happening with Sainsburys and with the appeals after appeals.
Could someone please confirm what stage we are at?
Thanks

Latest appeal is to the Secretary of State personally, previous one was to his department.
For those who dont know, Sainsbury's actually started building in Wadebridge, and 6 weeks later pulled all builders off site and screened whole site off. Now announced not starting again, and will re-consider in 2015. Also confirmed doing same on several other sites across UK. This isnt land banking - as I said they started.
Council is committed to building a roundabout and contracted to run a bus shuttle from site to town centre. They are bloody furious, and staring £400k loss in face unless Sainsbury's confirm they will meet costs (which they were due to when site opened).
Higgs must be crapping himself, or knocking on doors of their HQ in London to ask whats going on

The local population around a Horfield Sainsbury is over 30,000.This appears a lot better potential business than the Wadebridge.

I know for a fact that as soon as they're able they'll start building on the Mem site.

You are not alone in not knowing what might happen. Southend are in the same boat - Sainsbury have been bankrolling Southend for some seasons now and have paid tax bills and kept them out of admin or worse. This money to be deducted from the sale of Roots Hall for a new Superstore. Their concern is that the CEO Justin King is a football fan and he authorised all this and retires in July. They can't get any answers about their store nor can they can get any answers about whether the change of boss will lead to a change of policy. As all know they, along with the other big supermarkets, are now going down the "convenience" road. Of course they will all continue to build big stores but are definitely canning some, either temporarily or for good. Unfortunately, as things stands, no one seems to know which are going to get the chop. The only certain thing is that Sainsbury will do what suits Sainsbury. Hopefully none of this will affect your project but until Sainsbury make a statement I guess there will be uncertainty.

Well we were told that all contracts had been signed between BRFC / UWE /Sainsburys, presumably just subject to planning permission - which has now been obtained. So if Sainsburys are looking to pull out it will surely either cost them a lot of money or the risk of BRFC going to court to demand "specific performance". But the silence is deafening so something negative must be going on, otherwise why aren't the club pushing the "positive". At least that's my fear.
Last we were told, after the EH decision (now subject to appeal) was that more news would be given '"over the summer". My take on that is whatever else may be going on we are at minimum looking at delay, maybe to minimise costs and/or time construction to a 2016/17 season start.
Still waiting for news though so speculation takes over.

I think we have to wait for the 28 days to pass since the t*sser appealed to the SoS before we finally get the go ahead from Sainsbury.

Take the point but but we have PP and I'd be surprised anyone forsaw this issue once EH didn't make any strong representations during that process. Thus I don't see why the contract with S has not been completed. But if that is the case then just say so and all the "blame/anger" can be directed at that appellant.
I suspect the delay is more about renegotiating with the construction company to perhaps complete the build.on a lower cost method now the start of 15/16 seems a distant dream.

More likely BRFC and Bath City FC are attempting to come up with a ground share proposition acceptable to the Conference.

The more it goes on with our lot saying nothing, apart from later in the summer, the more I think the whole thing is not going to happen, I just don't believe NH and the board anymore, they say the UWE was plan A, when asked if there was a plan B they said there was no plan B (that at least is slightly believable I guess?!) when asked about the thought of relegation, we were told it wasn't an option, it happened, then we were told the UWE and relegation were not linked, now it seems Sainsburys and/or the board are getting cold feet/scaling back the project, because I really believe if I was in NH place, with the flack received and receiving about relegation on his watch to the conference, I'd be busting a bollock to come out with some time scales or more details about how good this ground is going to be, but no, silence, and it's telling me they've got nothing good to tell us.......

I'd say that the chances of the whole thing being dead in the water are pretty good right now. How long it takes them to come clean is another matter. My guess would be that they can probably string this charade out for a few more months by announcing a delay around July/August time, this should be enough to set the rumour mill into overdrive and it won't be long before there is a leak that blows the whole thing sky high - probably by September.

Toteend on one of the other forums suggests Sainsbury's are just about to tie up the lose ends, and Henbury Gas confirmed on the same thread that's also his understanding. The figures produced at the JR suggested the Horfield store was likely to be the biggest grossing in Bristol, there's no way Sainsbury's will just walk away from this store. Link

LinkPerhaps I am wrong then, seeing as tote end is the clubs unofficial leak account. Definitely someone with "inside knowledge" there.
