I am slightly worried about our recruitment (still time to rectify this of course) but I do have to agree with DC on this. We cannot and should not be paying over the top wages for players. They either want to come here and prove their worth or they do not. If they perform for us then they will get their rewards.

I am an advocate of small retainer big bonus. Let's face it the type of players needed are ones with big enough Kahonas to back themselves. Winners only need to apply.

Despite relegation and budget cuts, we will be seen as a big club in the conference and our reputation for wages will be known as well.
Players/Agents probably expect us to have more money than we do, or think they can con us out of it (again)
Hopefully this is a change for the better long term.

I'm not surprised DC is not wanting to spend much of his budget on an inexperienced back up keeper who is likely to only get playing time if SM gets injured in a match, because you can bet if SM did get injured DC would go straight into the loan market for a keeper.

It does seem like a re-run of pre season recruitment going back several seasons.
As it stands I can't see how we have enough to get out of the Conference and the season starts in under a month.

Small budget + high wages demands = lack of signings. Yet another refreshing and honest interview from DC, we needed a minimum of 8 new players and so far we have 5 decent ones. DC wants another 4 and there is still another 2-3 weeks to go before i will start getting worried.

Agreed. There is still time to rectify this though, so i'm willing to give DC the benefit on this one. However, if we go into the season with an unbalanced squad and are still chasing targets then we really are going to be in trouble.

Long john - to Kenneth you could probably add another 20+ names, just not interested in those types of wasters anymore.
Give me a young hungry enthusiastic lad prepared to show his worth!

Already he has added Mansell and Sinclair to Lockyer and Clarke in Central Midfield, we have Gosling to play wide, hopefully with a rejuvenated more reliable Ellis Harrison and added to Brunty up from we have Taylor and White - already more balanced than last season. Just need to add a bit more quality and some back up and it's not looking too scruffy in my opinion.

Maybe it would be a little different if Toni Tombola had actually given DC a budget early doors?

If all DC's signings hit the ground running we already seem to have a reasonable starting 11, we just need to add some additional "flair" players. As far as us not signing the likes of Kenneth etc when we signed them they all mostly seemed reasonable players, and the likes of Blizzard have gone on to show they aren't just journey men happy to sit on the bench.

The likes of injury prone Blizzard weren't and haven't been given well paid 3 year deals since leaving us and have to prove themselves

It's unbalanced in my eyes therefore. Even DC has acknowledged this in his interviews with his desire to bring in two wide players and a forward. Even then there are question marks about Brunt and Harrison. That's just me being realistic (not negative) and trying not to be blind about our squad as I have been for the past few pre seasons BTW!

Exactly, last pre season's recruitment (or lack of) was brushed off and anyone criticising was deemed overly negative. Well even I never saw relegation coming so I wasn't negative enough.

I have a lot of time for DC it seems as if he not prepared to let anyone take us for a ride which does seem to happen far too often to us..Spot on sign players who want to play for Bristol Rovers, not the silly money we have coughed up in the past.

Agree with majority here, I like the attitude of DC, he's taking responsibility, he is also going for players who want to show commitment, back their abilities with reward for performances. The last 10 rotten years have been full of managers, being allowed(!!) to waste their budgets on overhyped, overvalued, over remunerated, under committed crap players who couldn't give a toss. I'm going to back this bloke, and keep my fingers crossed he half knows the players needed at this level and what they deserve if they play well and succeed.

i agree with most previous,i dont want rovers being held to ransom by modest players,,its a bit of a worry because we still need maybe 4 players? it may be that some players suddenly scale down there demands as we approach the kick off and though its not ideal to sign players very late its better than paying over the odds.
