Just to clarify to Irish I am not defending and never have done the actual current tournament. Justas an example I never liked the tail end of the Glos Senior cup Final tournament late 1980s when just Rovers and City played each other when Gerry Francis starting playing our RESERVE team it devalued it massively. But I still went to the games. It was disrespectful to the tournament after a 100 years.Cant recall fans boycotting it. Tonight I am just supporting my club I have been supporting since 1967. Well this time next year we wont have to worry about the FLT as we will be in the Championship Well first of all I think people very much did stop going to the Glos Senior cup Final tournament which is one of the reason it slowly drifted into irrelevance as did most tournaments of that type around that time.
But, I also think this is the flaw in your argument. You want to go and watch the game - that's fine, no one should have a problem with that. But people who are boycotting the game are also supporting their club by standing up against what they perceive to be the thin of the wedge. Namely, the attempt to dilute the football league with 'B Teams' of varying descriptions. In the long run 'supporting your club' could equally well mean doing everything within your power to destroy this abomination of a contest. If Rovers (along with other clubs) feedback to the league that this has been a commercial and sporting disaster that has pissed off their core fanbase then it will surely provoke a rethink. Bradford City came as close as they probably could to endorsing this approach last week...
They stopped going to GFA Cup finals because Rovers disrespected it by playing Reserves/youth players. Rovers voted against proposal to allow U23s into the Checkatrade trophy but as in BREXIT ...The majority backed it...the remoaners still do not accept the decision but democracy rules

Of course, a famous William Shakespeare quote is: "The course of the true blues never did run smooth."
However, at Wembley in May 2015, Billy was overheard to say: "The golden age is before us, not behind us."

Unlike the EFL to fiddle while Rome burns!
The EFL Cup is a "total rip-off" for fans because Premier League managers field weakened teams, says former England winger Chris Waddle.
Liverpool made 11 changes and Tottenham 10 on Tuesday [this week] and the 10 top-flight teams made 71 changes, with a number of young or fringe players involved.
"I feel for the fans," said 55-year-old Waddle. "They should know who is going to play in the competition."
Bournemouth made 11 changes in a late September tie.
Been going on for some time. It's not just the EFL Cup, teams rest players for the Champions League, Mahrez and others were rested from Leicester the other day and the team lost the Premier match. This is unfair to supporters (again!) who pay a lot of money.
It's difficult to have a punt on games until you see the line ups about one hour before the game.
Sort out the EFL Cup before messing with the lower leagues. Mind you good luck with imposing extra rules on the all-powerful Premier League teams.

Now I don't want people to think I'm obsessed with this trophy, but next week's games from the same league (including ours) kick off over two days and on Tuesday, final league games start at four different times featuring different games from the same league. The EFL seem determine to devalue the whole thing, as teams will of course gain advantage by knowing what is required or can field weakened teams (within the rules.) It really is a pile of pooh, I'm going to leave it now and go into therapy.
PS The Supporters Club are not running a coach to Portsmouth, it's the first time they have cancelled a coach since 1978.

Excellent! It's not really shocking to most of us though. What is shocking in this article is a journalist writing "... less than the 20 people ... ". Actually, perhaps it isn't that much of a surprise.

I too agree there is a place for the Football League Trophy, to give it its formal name. The competition was a perfect one for lower league clubs to win some silverware, enjoy a cup run, and possibly a big day out at Wembley. Nothing wrong with that in my eyes. The North / South format made sense in reducing travelling times. Yes, the early rounds had poor attendance, but the later rounds were well supported enough. I quite like going to the home early rounds, it is in the evening which is convenient for me, and the prices were often lower. Tonight's game is one that I would normally go to, especially given we are playing Yeovil, but I'm not sure if I can bring myself to do it. I don't like the changes to the tournament personally. It should be League 1 and 2 clubs only and I'm not sold on the league format either. The "Cup Tie" atmosphere was another reason that drew me to the cold Autumn / Winter evenings. I know things have to change sometimes, but this feels like a backward step, and I would hate for the competition to simply be dropped as a result. you summed it up very well. EVERYONE is different. I was actually looking forward to the cup as, like you, evenings are easier for me than weekends, and I'm counting the pennies. So what have they gained from these changes? Admittedly I'm an infinitesimal drop in the ocean, but they've lost a fan who would have gone to the 2 home games, and put a nasty taste in my mouth. The tournament didn't need wholesale changes. it's simple, the early rounds will NEVER be well attended, but the later rounds can be quite tasty. best to keep it as a knock out so you can get to the later rounds quicker, and not clog up the packed early season fixture list either. We've had 2 games a week nearly every week so far!

OK I am obsessed with this disgrace. Here's the response when I emailed EFL: Thank you for your email and feedback.
The framework of the Checkatrade Trophy was agreed to by all our members and participating clubs. There are some fixture arrangements (whereby some clubs play on a Sunday for example) which means the option of clubs moving games to the Wednesday is available to enable fair recovery periods. In addition clubs are able to propose a kick-off time amendment to encourage attendance and this again has been agreed within the framework of the Trophy competition.
So it appears that clubs do not care giving advantage to another one in their league, further proof they don't really care anyway (my interpretation.) There are no league fixtures on Sunday and why would clubs play on Wednesday as they have league fixtures on Saturday, smacks of weakened teams?

There were no L1 fixtures last Sunday and why would at least 4 clubs play on Wednesday, including Creepy!!! when they have an FA Cup tie on Saturday? perhaps a crowd funding... high court challenge...Nick Higgs has tel numbers of some barristers who would welcome the work no doubt...
