Totally agree. You could also postulate that it is the most negative thing he said! I can also postulate that the contracts could be exchanged tomorrow Great news!

The best part is the speculation. I think its still gonna happen, but the problem may not have been at Sainsburys end.

The start date for the build will be announced on the morning of the open fans forum! Really, for sure? 21st July. Sainsbury's have already given their start date. As soon as it's commercially viable. If they thought that was likely in the next 11 days they wouldn't have included the caveat. Thinking more about this, it could well be that the site wasn't available to Sainbury's within the contracted time and that's what triggered Baywatch Babe's first statement in The Commons?

Great news! Here we go again, lost souls in Hades.... I thought R2 resided in Chippenham, hardly Hades, unless you know things we don't? Den of iniquity, perhaps?

I had an Aunt who lived near Chippenham and as a kid I used to love teasing my parents by asking "are we going to La Cock this weekend" It still tickles me now. The name of the place I mean.

But that's hardly Rovers fault, anyway how could they give a contracted date when it's really beyond their control? There may have been a provisional date Rovers couldn't meet but are Sainsbury's really going to miss the opportunity to build the store because it's a year or two late being built? It could be the opposite Rovers saying they want compensation as they are late starting building/finishing the UWE due to Trash objecting to Sainsbury's?

My opinion after reading this is Sainsburys will still be buying the mem and we can get on building UWE stad soon ..... However i can see Sainsburys sitting on the land at the mem for a while, i believe they have done this in the past (at Portishead they only started building a few months ago yet brought the land 4/5 years before) Maybe they want to see how the econmy grows and maybe will re apply in the future for a smaller store and more houses or something? As long as the club still get the money i frankly dont mind , although i'd like a supermarket as its close to my gaff! The reason portishead was delayed so long was two legal challenges by the co-op who have a supermarket nr by and then another quite long delay for the area to be cleared of great crested newts . Nothing to do with 'sitting' on the land. As I've said all along sainsburys are desperate to start the build on the Mem as they know it will be a gold mine.

You keep saying that but when did he say that??? They said they were building more smaller stores and building LESS large stores, however, they said they will still build large stores in the south west with partners building houses etc. This is one of those projects. They now say how important it is to get things moving yet some pick out certain words to make it look different.

Kid in the Riot posted this today on otib.....
......."Sainsbury's aren't happy with the contributions they have to make as part of the agreed section 106 agreement and so they are trying to renegotiate the amount with BCC."
"This would have to go back through planning committee for the Councillors to agree to.Further delays likely bit it's not necessarily an indication of cold feet on Sainsbury's part- they are just trying to get themselves the best deal possible and probably praying on the desperation of all involved to make the new store/stadium happen."
I don't know if this is old news or even true from 'Kid in the Riot',but there you have his latest on the subject on otib.

No. I just suggested the move to Twerton as a means of Sainsburys getting the Mem on time.
You can see from this thread why the board say jack sh*t until they have a definitive statement to make. People resort every time to picking out 'a word' for Christ sake and then we have a whole thread discussing it.
Never mind the sh*thead and what he says. Sainsburys know the 106 requirements are peanuts. They aren't happy with the price they agreed for the Mem, which, incidentally is higher than has been mooted on here., but are tied in contractually.
The choice they would have is either pay (guess) about £5-6m in penalties or not worry about reducing the cost of the site by a couple of million. But this isn't the problem either. As I understand it there were legal problems which are now just about resolved.

Knowing you, Brian, I expect you have some good sources so should we expect an early announcement about starting at the UWE?
