Club statement PUBLISHED 12:30 24th May 2016 Bristol Rovers can confirm that they have received an approach from Leeds United to speak to Darrell Clarke regarding him taking over as manager at Elland Road. As yet, the Yorkshire side have failed to meet the conditions set out by Rovers to enable any talks to take place and until that happens there is nothing else to report. We can also confirm that Rovers have offered Darrell a new and improved three-year contract to remain as Bristol Rovers manager. Bristol Rovers will not make any further comment until, and unless, there have been any further developments. Read more at www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/club-statement-on-darrell-clarke-3124067.aspx#V9CpuPRwtC5dZVxL.99wonder what the conditions are? From today's Evening Post — Clarke is currently on a 12-month rolling contract and it is understood that Rovers would demand a six-figure compensation fee should the manager decide that a switch to Elland Road would further his career.

You would think his job security would be better at Rovers though. He's got plenty of credits in the bank here whereas the first sign of trouble and Leeds will probably turf him out. I suspect that DC has that much self-belief in his abilities that he might not even consider that scenario though.
Ok put it this way, if we really struggled next season for the first few months he could be sacked with us, let alone Leeds. At least with them it would be from a higher level and a lot more by way of a pay off.
The new owners of Rovers have just enjoyed the ride so far, there is no saying they will be any more patient than Leeds. Much easier to resurrect a career following a sacking from a club like Leeds with their owner than from league one with us.
Think we can just agree to disagree on this one.

from OTIB and I take with a huge pinch of salt. No idea where it come from and doesn't make sense
DC knows this and has had no concrete assurances about his future and investment in the team.
The only firm offer has been new contracts for the squad.
Nor has the back room staff had any firm assurances about their futures.
When I heard the Leeds interest the other night it was received by the company I was with positively and dare I say it with the money being quoted an offer hard to refuse.
Expect much more discontent, this is just the beginning.
when asked about this rumour
Not a rumour, was intent on doing so until Wael spent time with him and the team, gave him to end of season as saw a promotion was likely if he didn't rock the boat.
As of yesterday there was no offer on the table for DC from your club, he's only reacted due to this news.
There really is no love lost between both parties.

leeds fans on twitter are all on damage limitations saying he shouldn't take the job the scenes when darrell becomes the 2nd league one manager who they've "never heard of" to turn them down in a week

There really is no love lost between both parties. It beggars belief exactly what this all means - it does have a tinge of the 'Old' Rovers regime where after euphoria follows depression. I hope DC signs his 3 year contract with the Gas and pushes on with the evolution.

That OTIB lot are a funny lot, one even said DC would have been sacked had he not got us promoted again.
Lets face it, we've worried them by climbing two levels and taking on a wealthy owner, its not surprising they are clinging onto anything they can that could stop us.

Leeds United are a massive club, but also a Circus at the moment. Complete shambles, Owner not liked by the fans, and the managers are changing every 5 minutes. Could go there only to be sacked and land straight back in league 1 or 2.

If we struggle in the third division, then I would hope lengthy patience be shown towards a manager with whom we have achieved consecutive promotions. It's normal to struggle thereafter, although I hope we can be top half with a chance of playoffs if we're lucky.
I hope this patience would be shown at Rovers. I hope DC knows it would not at LUFC. I hope he is signed up soon. First big signing for messers Hamer & Al Qadi.

There really is no love lost between both parties. I wouldn't take that seriously (or read their site). It doesn't tally with any of the vibes coming out of the club (except for Jim and if he had anything more substantive than a bus trip to hang his nose out of joint whinge on, I suspect he would have). I think DC would have expressed any problems, albeit between the lines being unhappy. Plus, Steve Hamer said a couple of weeks ago that all stuff that could wait til the summer was waiting til the summer, so bang on schedule, contract wise. I'm fairly relaxed about all this: He's a good manager, and it's his squad, playing for him, so I hope he stays. He'd be being recruited to a job they haven't yet told the incumbent is becoming free, and in which people last about 6 months. His seasons here have had a steady rather than spectacular start (see above). If he did go for it, I'd be fairly confident in our board's recruitment process (get Stat Man on to it).

I did say I think DC was initially shocked about the takeover as he was in the dark and probably didn't know what it meant for him
DC is usually quite telling in his interviews and since the end of the season everything was about going away and having a break so there was no rush to sort anything as offers were made to the 1st team.
Obviously Leeds interest has meant the club have had to act and offer something

Why would DC be put off by the Leeds job?
- The players have gone away for the summer without even being given a return date. - No pre season friendlies have been lined up - No academy manager - A manager lasts on average... 6 months? - The chairman recently said he doesn't want English managers as they like too much control, he just wants a coach. - DC would likely have a bunch of overpaid Championship ego's to deal with an Italian players forced upon him, who all went on strike last year. - The fans wouldn't give him 5 minutes if results went against him. - They haven't even had the decency to sack (or even update) their current manager, leaving him in limbo.
Does this really sound like a job DC would accept? Yes, maybe he would get sacked with a good payoff, and get another job, but would that job have the benefits of BRFC...
- Has legend status among fans - A rich chairman that gives him time, resources and the freedom to do his job properly. - A new stadium in the works that could help the club climb to the next level. - A Q+A meeting last year where he assured the fans he would not leave until he had finished in the top 10 in league one.
I wonder if SH and Wael are playing this cleverly, letting DC know he has freedom but they value him massively, rather than 'You aren't going anywhere'.

LUFC sounds like the football equivalent of North Korea - trying to join the dots of this thread.

Now 1-8 - without Leeds having even had the chance to speak to him! DC is not going anywhere. Honestly (and as objectively as possible) - why would he want to leave the Gas at the moment? And to dirty Leeds? No chance. Famous last words.

That's a very valid point that you make there, Centenary Gas. Perhaps if DC ever does get to the interview stage, he could pop down to the boot room and get the low-down on the managers life at LUFC from the horses mouth.

bookies prices on managers are a joke. i think unlike other prices where it reflects what money has been put on, with managers they know there will be fans backing managers so they shift the prices as if they know whats going on and then people pile on. Ive had 2 bets on managers, both went from 100/1 to not available as they were suppose to be shoe ins, and neither got that job and neither had had an interview.
clarkes going nowhere for 12 months. relax.

Could go there only to be sacked and land straight back in league 1 or 2. Thing is, that was us 2/3 years ago on a smaller scale. DC turned us around. With Leeds, he can almost say similar he has with us (great club bla bla history bla bla taker this club back where it belongs bla bla print that bla bla!). You have to give him time though, and just wonder if the club or fans would have the patience. Or like everyone else, I wonder if it's even the right match for him. Leeds is an ambitious move. It's a step up. It's a progressive career choice. I would wish him well and not blame him whatsoever. Good luck to him whatever he chooses..

Can't agree that it's a progressive career choice. An ambitious manager wouldn't go near that job given the current situation at the club.
