Hi everyone. Well we couldn't have asked for a better game really in terms of fans/popularity. I'm confident we will bring at least 500 fans and possibly upto 800 max as Bristol is a nice day out and for us a ground we haven't been to in a while. Should be a great game and I imagine it will be on BT sports so possibly rearranged to 5:15pm kick off which may keep a few fans at home. This will be our 5th season of non-league hell so know how you feel. Statistics aren't in your favour with regards to bouncing straight back but with Luton now gone it's an open league. The good thing regarding FGR is that they have tried to buy their way out for the last few seasons and failed miserably. Their ground by the way is in the middle of nowhere. I saw on a previous thread someone wondering where Braintree is, it's in Essex. Very small ground but have done well ever since they came up from conference South. They have been our non league bogey team. Words of advice, drop all FA trophy activity and concentrate on the league. It's nice going to wembley but for some reason it takes precedence over the league and combine that with weather postponements you have a massive backlog and will ultimately scupper any automatic hopes (as experienced oursleves). The league do festive derbies each year so you can expect Torquay on New years and Boxing day for however long you both remain in the league together. Lincoln requested they didn't play us at that time this year, probably bored of a token beating! And finally you will have to get used to having a massive following when you go away but will be staring at a lot of empty seats in the opposing end when playing at the Memorial. It's depressing and unfair but that's the sorry state we find ourselves. Also, enjoy Gateshead away which is an athletics stadium and just be glad you're not based where we are! See you on the 9th!

Hello Kymariner, also it will be nice to see Craig Disley and thank him for his time with us,we were quite good then. To be honest it is a better fixture than a lot we had in league two. Hope you have a good season, except of course for two games

To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed at playing Grimsby first as I felt they were a very good side last season and are probably favourites this time around. On the other hand, both you lot and Barnet provide us with a good test to begin with and also give us some kind of cushion between FL and non-league, as our next four games in August are proper 'non-league', down to earth games.

Hello Mariner, We sell proper Cornish pasties and I hope for the sake of those of you in the away end it doesn't chuck down with rain unless you get covered seats in the Tent End. Looking forward to you coming and giving Dis a verse of the special song we used to sing about him.

Thanks for your insight and kind words Kymariner, they're much appreciated. I can only remember two things from my previous trip to Blundell Park, one was the overpowering smell of fish over the ground, and the second was the local MP (Austin Mitchell) kicking a ball about on the pitch before the game started. Happier days for both of us, eh? In any event good luck to you for the upcoming season, and I hope that Grimsby do well . . . but not as well as BRFC though.

Grimsby are a decent club, with a very similar history to us since the 70s of flitting between the old Divisions 2, 3 and 4. Reasonable home crowds of 3,500 - 4,000 these days, up to 7,000 for derby with Lincoln, and very good away support at our level. They also have a nice if old stadium.
In fact, all in all, playing them is much more like the kind of thing we've been used to over the years than the "tinpot" clubs like Fleetwood and D&R. How are they doing these days?
So a good opening fixture. I'm sure the Mariners are looking forward to playing against another ex-league club again.
Sadly subsequent fixtures won't be quite so attractive. But thanks kymariner for the post. Perhaps everyone in the ground, home and away, can have a pre-match sing-song of "Fings ain't what they used to be".
