Fantastic, perhaps now we don't have to have the standard 'Cureton' debate which we have been subject to every year for as long as I can remember

As per predictions at the end of lat season when Cheltenham released him.
He will do ok in the conference.

He will do ok in the conference.I agree with that, but I'm still in two minds whether he would have been a good signing for BRFC at the moment. On the one hand a big YES, but on the other, well I suppose that we will have to trust in DC's vision. In any event I wish Jamie the very best of luck for next season (apart from the obvious of course), wherever he ends up. I still think that it was a shame that he never ended up here a couple of years ago, but he just didn't eh? If he had signed up, then I don't believe that we would be where we are today.

I would say no. He wouldn't be the player that people remembered but he was a top half League 1 player when he was with us last and now we are non league. Best for him to prove himself elsewhere at this level.

I do wish that Trollope would have signed him when he had the chance though as that was when Cureton moved to Colchester and scored s**t loads of goals. Trollope really wasn't very good at signing players.

If we would have signed him then i'm sure people would have used it as an excuse to beat DC with a stick. I'm happy with the 3 strikers we have and also that there is one space available for another forward. I'm hopeful that in White & Taylor we have the next up and coming Cureton's, and after what happened with Ward, at this moment in time i think it best for ex employees not to go back.

I see that Turkey have also signed Ryan Bowman, a good striker there. Whether that will be in addition to JC, we shall see!

I do wish that Trollope would have signed him when he had the chance though as that was when Cureton moved to Colchester and scored s*** loads of goals. Trollope really wasn't very good at signing players. Cureton's Golden Boot at Colchester was one of the great travesties of football (my opinion only) and he's been living off it ever since with some success. Cureton spent a season goal hanging at Colchester and his principal supplier was Iwelumo (just signed for his local club so he can get on with his coaching badges and take his kids to school). The Golden Boot should have been cut in half that season and half given to Iwelumo. I was living in Colchester at that time and saw the combination on many occasions - it was Iwelumo who did the donkey work for Cureton, big strong man who got knocked over, got up, still got the ball and still got the cross in. Not that football supporters are generally interested in the "morals" of a player but the gloss at Colchester of Cureton was well and truly rubbed off by his behaviour. I note that a couple of you are disappointed at Mr Gow apparently not hanging about in the Conference. I bet it isn't going to match Cureton's departure from Colchester. In their heady moments of the Golden Boot season there was, of course, immense speculation that a bigger club would come in for him. Cureton moved swiftly to put this right: touring the local radio stations plighting his troth to Colchester for ever and ever and, more importantly, duly turning up for the Open Day where, as many of you will understand, there was a VERY long queue of doting Dads among others lining up with their offspring handing over hard earned cash to get that magical SIGNED shirt Cureton 9 (available in all adult/junior sizes) while well knowing that, at the time, his Agent was tying up the final details of his departure to Norwich City unbeknown to Colchester and the Dads and the Kids in the queue but well known to Cureton. My bet is (in the Colchester season) that most of the s*** load of goals came via Iweumo. Usual rules? If you sign a striker and he gets the service you have a right to expect results perhaps. But what if your striker (s) doesn't get the service? Whose fault is that? Probably of little interest but I treasure the comment of a now deceased Colchester supporter who said: "I shall mostly remember him as a duplicious little b******." Where your Mr Trollope fits into this I cannot say. IF Mr Gow has just said no and moved on he has, I would think, played it comparitively straight. As it happened he went off to Norwich and completely bombed, pausing only to return to the local radio stations when out of favour (as he often does or when seeking a new club) to say how much he would like to "return". In the case of Colchester he was promptly told where to go and has been going to various places ever since.

I was interested in your thoughts last week about the future of lower league and Conference clubs. Do you think Bristol Rovers are a special case ? If we got our act together do you think we are one of those smaller clubs who could compete at Championship level even if we have to stay at an upgraded Memorial Stadium ?

Utterly ridiculous!!!!!!!!!! If Jamie had joined Rovers last season and scored the 11 goals for us that he scored for Cheltenham, we wouldn't have gone down. He was in talks with the board and wanted to sign but the board refused to pay that little bit extra that other teams were willing to pay; who is sorry now??!! This season he's not under a contract and is a free agent. He wouldn't cost Rovers a penny and would score goals cos love him or not; he's a goal scorer!!! If he goes to Torquay they will get promotion. Are we seriously saying that strikers from Salisbury town that have never ever played in the prem or the Champions league are going to supply us with the experience needed to get out of the conference??!! Come on people and the board how about a little ambition for a change, no.....How about a lot of ambition!!! I quite liked it when we were in the Championship!!!

Come on people and the board how about a little ambition for a change, no.....How about a lot of ambition!!! I quite liked it when we were in the Championship!!! I believe it went more like this... - Cureton in talks with BRFC - Rovers offered a wage - Cureton's agent said 'no, we want more' - Rovers said 'no' - Cheltenham offered LESS money than Rovers - Cureton and his agent took it because they were desperate at that point It seems the same will happen this time around, and I've had enough of that sort of player. And you talk about the time in the Championship as if we got there by paying over-inflated wages on crap players. We didn't, team spirit went a long way in securing success for that Rovers team which last got to the second tier. Where we went wrong is we didn't sign anybody else to take the place of Cureton, and we didn't recruit properly in other positions. Ward was far too complacent in my opinion as to how good that team was.
