Loss of a great GK.Okay,in the 5th tier it is clearly very difficult to keep our good players, but simply Bristol Rovers shouldn't be in this position.
We should be 3rd tier and seeing a season or three out of good youngsters before letting em go.
I hate Rovers being a stepping stone for so many players.
Another way of looking at is yes,we have a good GK and the money the club receives will hopefully come in very handy and realistically this is "where we are". But it's a shame,is'nt it.

Breaks my heart that we HAVE to let this young starlets go because of pressure from "Better" Clubs

It does make you wonder why any lower league club invests in a youth squad/academy as any half decent player is poached for peanuts.

Rovers don't have a choice in the matter thanks to EPPP. If the club have a higher grade academy they can cherry pick the best talent for peanuts in compensation. Rover's being in Conference and EPPP category 3 are at the bottom of the food chain.

I have been thinking the same recently,I always used to think that it was youth academy that would be the answer for small clubs but if you bring them on and then they leave before giving any benefit whats the point ? I am wondering now whether it would be better to be looking in Europe at young players ?.

Is the compensation the same for a non league club as a Football League club?

In fact it will kill lower league clubs, and its one of the reasons why I hate the focus on the Premier League really. A set fee means clubs can't hold onto players and also means their money available is reduced = worse youth facilities/staff.

On a serious note wouldn't we have the same problem in that they'd still be taken off us if they turned out any good? Plus the cost of bringing them to England and then looking after them whilst they are here wouldn't be cheap? Personally I'd think about scrapping the youth set up, like Yeovil already have?, and just picking up 18 year old players when they are released by the bigger clubs. If we can't even keep Santos what hope do we have!!

A Rovers supporter too. A very talented U16 keeper there is no doubt. Relegation is costing us in more ways than we can imagine !! Still no news about Ollie Mehew (Boris' son) a very promising centre forward !?

More money in the pot ?? or a loss of a potential great keeper ?? No money in the pot. You get f**k all thanks to EPPP. We've lost a player for next to nothing, no doubt.

Even had we stayed up Beauchamp will play league football at Norwich sooner than if he'd stayed at Rovers. For lower league clubs the typical situation is to have a young lad as the bench warmer, then when the senior keeper gets injured club thinks it's to much of a risk to play the young bench warmer so go & loan a player from a higher league club to cover the injury. That player from a higher league club will be someone young like Beauchamp. No brainer for the kid (& undoubtedly his agent) whether we were L2 or conference
