Sacked by Oldham after spot fixing allegations (charges later dropped), but capable of fancy things.

I think its worth having a little dig around and look at the other thing he might have been accused of in 2013 that was dropped!

Hopefully he will turn out to be the second best export to come out of Columbia

I think we should judge a player based on his behaviour and performances as a Bristol Rovers player. Actually, no I don't. I don't think anyone on here is qualified to judge a player. You can have an opinion, but that's it.

bit of an odd one for me, but welcome aborad
his Wiki (FWIW)
Early life[edit]
Born in Cali, Colombia, Montaño moved to London as a child and holds nationality of both Colombia and the United Kingdom.[4][5] He has pledged any future international career to Colombia and models himself on Faustino Asprilla.[6]
Football career[edit]
West Ham United[edit]
Montaño joined West Ham as an under-12 player, signing his first professional contract in June 2010.[4] Montano had several loan spells during the 2011-12 season but did not feature in the first team for West Ham.[7]
In August 2011, he signed a one-month loan deal with Notts County,[8] making his debut on 9 August in a League Cup game against Nottingham Forest, which Notts County lost on penalties after the game had finished 3–3.[9][10] He made his league debut and scored his first goal for Notts County on 13 August in a 2–1 home defeat to Charlton Athletic.[11] His loan with Notts County was extended until 9 October,[12] after which he returned to West Ham.[13]
Soon after leaving Notts County, Montaño signed a one-month loan deal with Swindon Town,[14] making his debut for Swindon on 15 October, scoring the second goal in a 2–0 away win against Accrington Stanley.[15] His loan was cut short in November and he returned to West Ham having scored one goal in four appearances.[16] Montaño then signed a one-month loan deal with Dagenham & Redbridge,[17] scoring on his debut on 19 November in a 3–2 home defeat to Southend United.[18] The Daggers extended Montaño's loan for a further month on 20 December.[19]
Montaño again joined Notts County on loan in February 2012.[20] His loan was not extended and he returned to West Ham in March.[21] On 16 March, Montaño joined Oxford United on loan as a replacement for ex-loanee Lee Holmes.[22] His first goal for Oxford came on 7 April in a 2–1 away defeat to Northampton Town.[23]
Oldham Athletic[edit]
In August 2012, Montaño signed a two-year contract with Oldham Athletic, with the option of a third year, for an undisclosed fee.[24] He scored three goals in 40 league appearances for Oldham,[7] but was sacked by the club in December 2013 on the grounds of gross misconduct relating to alleged spot-fixing.[25] In November 2014, having been released from bail but with investigation still ongoing by the National Crime Agency, Montaño announced his intention to sue Oldham Athletic following his dismissal.[26] The charges were later dropped.[27][28]
América de Cali[edit]
Following his dismissal by Oldham Athletic, Montaño was playing for América de Cali in his homeland of Colombia.[29]
Personal life[edit]
In December 2013, Montaño was charged with the rape of a woman in Romford, London.[30] He appeared in court in March 2014.[31] No verdict was returned by the jury and the case was dropped by the prosecution.[32][33]

So he is an innocent man then.

I'm going to judge him on his performances. Judging on the interview my first thought is he is as thick as a whale omelette.

I know nothing of the lad and hope he turns out to be a good player for us.

Bad egg? Maybe but this shows that weather we do or don't want LDV & Dawson it appears we won't sign them. A bit of a strange one this but I just hope we haven't panicked with this need for a winger signing as DC is very particular when it comes to player recruitment!

A bit of a strange one this but I just hope we haven't panicked with this need for a winger signing as DC is very particular when it comes to player recruitment! DC discusses 'talking at length with Montano and his advisors' re: off the field stuff, 'getting glowing references from managers' and him 'playing well whenever I've watched him'. I don't think it's a panic buy based on that! Very meticulous in his recruitment is our DC.

He's not been convicted of anything so it's all irrelevant from a football & non-football point of view, his history will always flag up in the paper to fill column inches, especially as this his first club since coming back from it all. What's important is that he settles in Bristol & has a good pre-season, because he is a player with huge potential, certainly league 1 standard like Linesy, and the quality these players will bring will help us have a decent season. The key thing now is a right footed winger & a replacement for Trotman, and like DC said earlier, a keeper and striker may also come in. I'm not convinced DC wants Mildenhall as number 1, and the Ryan Clarke rumours have been around for a while now.
