The main reason that t he cost of the Uwe has rocketed is the price of materials, especially steel. Add to this that when the original plan was drawn up the building market was in a slump, so labour costs were also low. As we know the building industry is on the up judging by the number of ticky tacky boxes being built now, anyway costs rise on a yearly basis no matter what the industry is, unless you are a big supermarket that is Are you sure about this? I'm no expert, but this index appears to show the opposite: www.worldsteelprices.com/

The UWE would still be a very attractive prospect for the right investor. I doubt they would have the FC at the heart of any investment but I would imagine that there HAS to be investors waiting to see how the judgment gies tomorrow. I fully expect there to be news of someone coming in and getting it built. To get this far and have the planning in place and not build would seem madness on the cafe of it. Icon Venue Delevopments come to mine

For those going, try and find Mr Higgs outside the court room before hand and see if you can gauge anything from his facial expression. Does he look happy or look like he is fuming?

It's not tomorrow www.justice.gov.uk/courts/court-lists/list-chancery-judgesSorry, couldn't help myself Well done to the Gasheads that came down today albeit for JP to say nothing and hand out a written verdict leaving us to find the important paragraph and then realise that it wasn't good news and that "must succeed" meant "have won". I've read quite a lot of it in more detail now and the more I read the more I think an appeal stands no chance. Time to move on sadly and just get back to supporting the club.

Thanks for your time - hope you still have a league club to support next season !

Really, do you believe that given the information we now have at our disposal ? i think the TRASH thing added cost, no doubt on that but the planning was the deal breaker here and it's now down to whether the judge feels that Sainsbury acted with malice afore thought, to try their best to sabotage the entire deal, in not pursuing the amended hours. As I see it, I am often wrong mind, the TRASH & Carstairs interventions were very much a sideshow to the real issue. Time consuming and costly in terms of materials going up but not really part of the planning permission amendment. It seems to me there was a definite cut off date but I don't know if the law allows for a judge to rule that date was purposely manipulated so as to go in favour of Sainsbury purposely being able to say the contract was ended. That is the 30 million pound question. There is no doubt, in my mind, that Sainsbury's acted maliciously and my hope is that the judge saw that as hostile and ergo that is enough to judge in our favour. KP - there is a lot of your messages that I fundamentally disagree with but in this instance you are correct.
From attending the first five days of the Court case, Sainsbury's QC confirmed that his client wanted to pull out of the contract BEFORE the initial planning permission was granted. This was before Trash/Carstairs got involved, they were a mere sideshow that dragged out this matter and cost us probably a few extra £100k.
I don't see anything bad in disagreeing and it would be a damned dull forum if we all held the same views. I just don't get the personal attacks by some, there are 4 in particular, no point in me naming them, that seem to really rejoice in finding any small point to dive into. I have learned a great deal from using this forum. I can be like an over enthusiastic puppy at times and can sometimes write without proper thought. It's something I am working on, I try hard not to be personal and not to post something that can be taken personally but there are a few that it seems to be their sole purpose. I also have learned that I don't have to have the last word. Sometimes it's just best to withdraw from the conversation and leave it at that it's been good for me tbh, I am an emotional guy but I can also now just leave something. That has been valuable for me. Until il I started to use the iPad, in place of my iPhone, I never even knew you could block certain posters . I have used that particular facility well. I felt cowardly blocking at first as it's just not in my nature to back away from things but it has made my experience of using this place a much nicer one I don't use the forum as often as I would have but that isn't such a bad thing either

I don't agree with all you say, but that's just human nature. I would say though that despite some of the abuse you get on here - just from a few - you are always sensible and respectful in your replies. You never rise to the abuse given to you. You also admit when you've got it wrong. Sometimes before anyone else has even suggested it. It takes a lot to admit you might have been wrong, and I think most of us just go silent when that happens. Not you. You have strong opinions and those opinions will attract many to respond, including full-time WUMs who just want a keyboard row. I don't post on here much any more because I can't be arsed with the lack of respect for anyone having an opinion they don't like. I don't mean most posters on here. I still read it all with interest, and it's a good forum. But there are a few professional warriors who spoil it for me. But you carry on mate

I can be a blithering idiot but I find it's easier to admit my own foibles and outright errors as its just good for me to do so. I enjoy a good debate but don't like getting involved in outright slanging matches and personal abuse. That's a dangerous game.
