A huge first 50 over innings kills the game, for me these high score first knock kill the game off, as it just puts the second inning team under so much pressure, having to score at best part of 8 an over from ball one is just too much to ask , but credit to NZ for their approach, as West indies ' Gayle could destroy any team if he got it right I agree - I'd go further actually and say that I find high scoring games (even if they're close) pretty dull because the runs don't carry the same value. I think cricket is at it's best when there's a genuine balance between bat and ball. The best games I've watched and played in have been games that have been relatively low scoring where a score of 30 can make all the difference either way. That's genuine tension. High scoring games tend just to be really attritional. Curtly Ambrose was talking the other day how they need to do something to restore the balance. Greatest respect to Martin Guptil (who has had a good tournament) and all that but if he's getting score of 200+ then it kind of devalues it a bit. I saw the first innings score in that game and didn't bother to follow the 2nd innings. Looks like Gayle gave it his best shot but barely made a dent in the score. I hope the Semi's and the Final aren't like this - admittedly it's partly because Windies bowling attack is pretty weak but still.

the game the southern hemisphere were wishing for i would think, now it need NZ to bat first and get in the region of 300 + to put any sort of pressure on the aussies, as the way they are playing at the mo, it will need a bloody good knock to challenge them

Whether they can hold their nerve in front of screaming MCG and generations of little brother syndrome is whole other ballgame though. It would be a much better story if they won it though - it's an interesting collection of characters. The Aussies are good but I don't think they're unbeatable I actually think their lineup has a few more holes than the New Zealand and it's not often you say that. India played pretty poorly to be honest - they're much better than that.

Well the 2015 world cup final was a damp squib, when McCullum gets out 3rd ball they really are struggling, only 2 NZ batters got anything of note and only posted 183...so of course the Aussies won at a canter with 17 overs to spare.
