Yes, the Poole ground is in the grounds of a school! They've had to upgrade gradually over about 8 years. In the last week they just gained permission to stay in the Conference South having spent a good deal, to them, to pass ground regulations. So yes it's a poor ground, basically a school but from where they were 15 years ago, Hampshire League, they have done well. Whenever I think of what might have happened to Rovers I think we could be playing Poole Town on their ground, a very sobering thought! Will they be allowed into the conference if they get through in the play offs? I don't know. Their ground now meets Conference South conditions. Looking at it it is well well below what I would think it should be. In the press report it was fairly non commital about National League. I think they hope it won't become an issue. Their ground issue has been a minor version of Rovers but only been going on for 20 years not 50/60!

Will they be allowed into the conference if they get through in the play offs? Apparently the Conference has told Poole Town today that they are not allowed in the play offs should they qualify for them as their ground does not have the necessary under cover seating of 500 needed for the Conference, sorry National League. Darlington of Conf North have been told a similar thing. That response from the Conference seems to answer your question! Both clubs may appeal to the FA because it was the Conference, not the FA, who made the decision. Gets very interesting in non-league at this time of year esp with ground qualifications as clubs move up the leagues based on their team not always their ground. Hope that's given some background.

Just back from a local derby of sorts. Hengrove Athletic v Keynsham Town in the western league. Enjoyable, niggly game. 1-0 to the hosts.

Now the play offs are probably over for us, I won't bother with Peterborough and will head up to Glasgow for the weekend for the Old Firm semi at Hampden. This means I will be able to tick off a new ground on the Saturday, of which the easiest options will be Airdrie, Edinburgh City or Cowdenbeath. I will probably plump for Cowdenbeath as it will almost certainly be the last chance to see them as a league club.

London Road is oddly another new tick for me on Saturday. Missing Portugal Pre-Season as I'll be in Holland at the Women's Euros doing four games. Hopefully do some Dutch pre-season as well.

Spookily I had earmarked both of those games myself, I was due to be working in the midlands today but a change of plans saw me in Plymouth. Depending what happens in work tomorrow I may well see you at Merthyr still!

I see we have just announced friendlies at Melksham and Taunton which should mean I will be able to make it 173 different grounds I have seen the Gas on.

First half was bland, second carnage with Workington scoring a 93rd minute equaliser. Stourbridge got the winner in extra time, coins were thrown, fighting the lot. Didn't think much of Stourbridge's support tbh. Great ground though, three sided with a cricket pitch on one side.

Just seen in the other semi-final Spennymoor beat Nantwich, so the final will be Spennymoor v Stourbridge at Spennymoor due to them finishing higher in the league. Shame really as I'm in and around Brum on Saturday so may have popped along if it was at Stourbridge. Strongly tempted to pop along to non-league finals day at Wembley in late May; double header between South Shields v Cleethorpes in the Vase and Macc v York in the trophy. Have only previously been to Wembley with Rovers before and always wanted to experience a game there that I could enjoy without the fear of violently s**tting myself at any point!

Went last year to Incenzo Day, it was ok but an odd atmosphere. Managed to get a cheap Club Wembley ticket though. You'll get to see Julio Arca making his Wembley debut aged 36 for South Shields. It won't be very well attended with those teams though.
Go watch Bromsgrove on Saturday.

Off to Brisbane Road tomorrow. Could conceivably be the last home game that Leyton Orient FC play.

Been in Australia for a few weeks and have just been to the Allianz Stadium to see Sydney City FC beat Perth Glory 3-0 in the semi final of the A League Play Offs. 21,000 quite an atmosphere although very few away supporters. Don't think away support is an Australian thing, distances too far! Interesting thing for me was that they have this replay system, a bit like cricket, where controversial incidents will be looked at and decisions reversed. This happened with two of the goals. In the end the right decisions were made. Andy Keogh, ex Wolves, Millwall and Scunthorpe was playing for Perth but no other players I recognised from Europe. Good experience to see other country's football, quite a good standard.
