Went to watch the big Manchester derby yesterday - FC United vs Salford City at Broadhurst Park. 4,200 there for a Conference North game which is quite remarkable and a cracking atmosphere as well.
Unfortunately though it was a poor one sided contest. Comfortable win for big spending Salford City who looked a cut above any team I've seen at that level this season (though I haven't seen the leaders Fylde). I largely go for a good time (*) and don't play much attention to the players so was amazed to discover that FC United's recent goalkeeper signing (who I'd noticed was a clear upgrade over the previous guy) was none other than a 42 year old Adriano Basso!
*To the extent that, having been last week to the game against Harrogate, I have been under the impression all week that I witnessed a comfortable 3-1 FC win and was therefore amazed to read the manager's programme notes yesterday and discover that it was actually a 3-3 draw! Must have seen over 500 games now over 20+ years as a regular football fan and that's never happened before. All 3 of my mates were in the same boat and refused to believe me when I informed them of our error until I showed them both the programme notes and the result- we just got there 5 minutes late and missed first 5 minutes of 2nd half as we were in the bar. Even that is a crap excuse though because they have screens in the bar that show the game as it is being played! Embarrassing but also very funny - we must have been really pissing off the hardcore fans around us while we loudly prattled on at each other about 'what a comfortable win this has been' and discussing Harrogate's late 'consolation' goal! Surprised they let us back in yesterday.....Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Dortmund is go!
€16 for a terrace ticket vs Wolfsburg, flying into Düsseldorf on the morning of the game, train to Dortmund and then beers, the match and back to Düsseldorf for an early-ish flight the next day.
Berlin also booked now, meeting my mate Dave (a Port Vale fan that lives near Leipzig) for Union Berlin vs Aue. Two proper trips to mend a broken heart haha.

I am staying in Havant tonight and have just found out that Havant & Waterlooville are at home to AFC Portchester in the Portsmouth Senior Cup semi final- and it's only a fiver to get in! AND Ben Swallow plays for them! It's a glamorous life I lead.

Even better I found a fiver in the car park and it was a fiver to get in! Anyone fancy running a coach to the final?

Anyone aware of a Manchester based Havant and Waterlooville firm?!

Bloody good weekend in Germany, left Bristol at 03:15am to get to Heathrow and got there in plenty of time for a 05:30 pint to get the day rolling. Landed in Dusseldorf in plenty of time to get the train to Bochum for VfL Bochum against Würzburger Kickers. Bochum's ground was tidy if a little dated having last been renovated 20 years ago. I stood on the terrace behind the goal to the right of the Ultras as you looked from the pitch. Good atmosphere, good beer and a 2-1 late win for Bochum. I then made the mad dash to the underground tram to then get the train and underground to Dortmund who faced Wolfsburg. Due to incidents before, during and after the RB Leipzig game the previous home match the famous Sudtribune was annoyingly closed. Luckily we had tickets in the Nordtribune and the Ultras had been moved to the away block (Wolfsburg don't travel well). Dortmund eased to a 3-0 win and despite the closing of the "Yellow Wall" the atmosphere was superb. Easily one of the best grounds I've been to. We finished off the night with more beer in a bar with a Rovers shirt on the wall bizarrely, I ended up back in the hotel around midnight completely crashed out. Can't wait for Milan in two weeks.

I'm going to Prestatyn Town v Gap Connah's Quay in the Welsh Cup quarter final this weekend. Up there for a mate's 40th so needs to be done. It's live on S4C for a 5.15 kick off if you can get it on in the clubhouse.
My ST is on offer for Scunny.

Another hop planned this weekend, this time in Italy and Switzerland;
Fly into Milan Saturday morning, get the train to Lugano for Lugano FC vs Lausanne Sport. Then it's a train back to Milan for AC Milan vs Chievo at the San Siro, that's another big tick for me. Then on the Sunday Brera vs Ador Lazzate in the Italian 4th tier before flying home!

Off to the Old Firm game on Sunday so I am taking the opportunity to get to Dumbarton v Raith Rovers. It looks an awful ground tbh, albeit one in a spectacular setting. I have tried to get there before, but a postponement, and an attempt to make a late kick off after watching Clyde v East Fife ended stuck in Glasgow traffic. Although it is a new ground (opened in 2000), Dumbarton are already looking to move again,so I want to tick it off before they go.

So last weekend was Switzerland and Italy, decided to pie my Sunday game as it would be touch and go with flights. First up was Lugano vs Lausanne, a 2-1 win for the home time but the train from Milan was the real highlight. Snowcapped peaks, beautiful lakes and Lugano was truly beautiful. The walk to the ground was broken up with some trips to cafe's for a beer or two, the ground with an athletics track around it was simple but the setting fantastic. Really happy to have gone there, a new country tick as well. Headed back to Milan on the train, jumped into a taxi and went to the ground. The Stadio Giuseppe Meazza is bonkers, it appears from nowhere like a spaceship has landed. It's easily the biggest ground I've seen rising up. The size of it is outrageous. The famous spiraled walk ways going up the stadium, the brutalist brilliance of its architecture were all there before getting into the ground. When I was inside, my word. Probably the best ground I've ever been too. Only 27,000 there disappointingly but a 3-1 win for Milan had the punters go home happy. I just wish it had been fuller. This weekend I popped to London after Rovers and went to Fisher's ground for Millwall Lionesses against Brighton in WSL2. One of the better 0-0's you'll see, the game just needed a goal. The ground was wonderful though, well not the ground but the setting...

I was staying in Stafford last night and managed to get to Hednesford Town v Wolverhampton Sporting FC in the Staffordshire FA Senior Cup 1/4 final. Great game that ended in a 3-2 win for the home side. Hednesford have fallen a fair way since their conference days and FA Cup heroics,if they ever do get back up the pyramid, the ground is certainly suitable for conference level football.

I genuinely didn't know where Hednesford actually was - Staffordshire way then? Is it in Cannock? (Yes, I know I can look it up on google maps but that's dull - I'd prefer to think of it as a mythical Narnia like place!).

I stayed just off the M6 at J13 and it was a couple of junctions down, no more than a 20 minute drive away. I'm not sure C.S. Lewis would have bothered picking up his pen if Narnia was anything like Hednesford.
